Julian Sanza

LMD010 - Tommy Largo - Come On (Julian Sanza Remix)

Julian SanzaBorn in 1975 in Argentina, Julian's first contact with music was before he was even being born; his mother played piano at home while pregnant. Being able to play piano for as long as he can remember, Julian was given a Yamaha organ as a 12th birthday present after he insisted so much. He then attended a "Fame" type of secondary school learning everything related to instruments performance, singing, dancing and musical theory. After being in a couple of bands Julian began organising parties and used the money to buy his first synths and samplers. His first real foray into DJing was cut short when the club where he secured a summer residency was burned down a week before opening. Thankfully he managed to find work as helper for live gigs and also started working at a studio In 1997 after more than 10,000 accounted hours of work in the studio on projects for TV, singers, bands, poets, theatre and “crazy people” Julian had enough money to take a 6 month course in England. Traveling to London from Gatwick with friend Luciano, the pair found themselves tuned into a pirate radio station “this is really cool I thought, I love UK Garage!” After a spell in London and taking in the range of styles available on the club scene, Julian briefly returned to Argentina, before arriving back in England at the end of 2000 to work as a DJ and producer. After a gig in Paris, Julian ended up staying with Jef K for 3 months where he wrote most of Ciudad Feliz' "Positive Directions". Back in England he met his girl, Maria and continued producing music with Fernando Pulichino (as Silver City). After EPs on the Parisian ‘Silver Network' The pair were signed to ‘2020 Vision' Oct 2002, “Ralph saved my ass by getting me a proper work permit”. That was just the start!...

Silver City's two debut 2020 EP's; “1969” and “Elastic” showcased their superb, bass heavy deep and driving sound over six tracks. “Say Hi” saw the guys move into more live instrumentation and even adding their own vocals and begin work on their first Silver City album.

Julian is also a member of 2020SoundSystem alongside Ralph Lawson, Fernando and Dubble D. In three short years 2020Soundsystem have became one of the best live bands within an ever increasing new wave of acts mixing up electronic music with healthy dollops of punk and p-funk. They have established themselves firmly in the festival circuit as well as building up their reputation through the world of underground clubs and dirty discos. Their debut album was released in May 2006. 2020Soundsystem was started as a new way of playing live by Ralph Lawson, 2020 boss and original DJ at the legendary ‘Back to Basics' club in Leeds and Danny 'Dubble D' Ward. Tired of a jaded club scene they sought a different way to entertain and excite. By weaving live instruments into Lawson's DJ set, they transformed the clubbing experience into something new by giving punters the best of both worlds: the continuity and diversity of a DJ mix with the raw energy and excitement of seeing a live band. The project became four when bass player Fernando and keys-man Julian impressed Ralph with their ability to play (and well as cook a mean steak). At first it was a jam around Lawson's DJing, but as the idea developed original material started to come out of the sessions. The crew played very much as a dubstyle soundsystem for the first two years and then started experimenting with adding vocalists.

If all that wasn't enough, Julian is solo artist in his own right, with releases on Infant and Polyphonics and remixes for labels including Lost My Dog. Julian runs his own label “Heartbeat Revolutions”, the idea being to keep a low profile, stay under the radar and release quality music.
