B2: FraidSo's Lost My Cat Remix

Over the past two years Pete Dafeet has emerged as a bright young talent in UK house music. At 22 he has produced for some of deep house's hottest labels including Uniform (owner Jake Childs rates Pete as his favourite producer and Pete's Head Trauma EP was the label's biggest seller last year), Shaboom, Bosh Records and of course Lost My Dog. His music is played by the cream of the house crop and the future looks bright, with Lost My Dog going from strength to strength and with summer releases due out on Greenhouse, Baker Street and more on Uniform.

Pete's original mix meshes an old school flavour with the new. A velvet bassline and Pete's distinctive snappy beats combine with a sultry female vocal which will work in clubs, bars, at home and in cars. Dallas' Demarkus Lewis steps up with more punching beats, open hats and swinging percussion which all drive the track along. Complemented by a huge rolling bassline and sweeping pads, the track is one unrelenting and hypnotic groove from start to finish. LMD favourites Rhythm Plate, fresh from their superbly received release on Winding Road, come up with a typically eccentric take on things and an interesting angle on the “Love Undercover” theme. Their skippy and superbly programmed beats ride alongside a Juno bassline, hollow sounding synths and those cheeky vocals. FraidSo, although hailing from Manchester, complete the package which a dubby mix straight out of the new school of Chicago jack. Energetic beats build for 2 and a half minutes before a devastating bassline drops in. From there the track grows and grows with a frenzied little vocal and delicate keys.

Magazine Reviews

iDJ Mag – July 2006 4/5
This slippery slice of electronic deepness rolls with a classic grace that young producers like Pete really shouldn't have, but we're glad he has. Remix-wise Demarkus Lewis takes things right back to the old skool by leaving the tune untouched and lavishing it with beautiful pads. Other remixes include the humorously titled Lost My Cat and Incest Is Best rubs from FraidSo and Rhythm Plate respectively. All of them rule.
4/5 (Larry Nelson)

Plasticsoup.com - 8/10
Lost My Dog initially appeared to be a vehicle for Pete Dafeet to put out music made by him and his mates. So much credit must be given for building up the label to the point where, for the ninth release, it is overdue a Dafeet EP, having featured the likes of Greenskeepers, Phil Weeks and Jay Tripwire on production or remix duties recently. That said, the remix line-up here is one of the tastiest so far - Demarkus Lewis, Rhythm Plate and FraidSo all take on Pete's funky yet hypnotic original.

Manchester's FraidSo offer pared-down Chi-town beats over a pulsating sub-bass, whilst bouncing keys and an analogue bassline mark out Rhythm Plate's take. Pick of the bunch for me is Demarkus Lewis' punchy tech-house version, which accentuates all the best features of the original, and which caused a stir when I dropped this at Basics. (Leo Belchetz)

DJ Reactions

Best mix without a doubt is original mix. Like the old school deep progressive tip sort of thing we hammered in 94, and sounds great today in this mix, nice and smooth and not cluttered and jittery. Good to hear something like!

Jay Tripwire
I really like this release; orig, Demarkus and the Rhythm Plate remix are all great.

James Talk

Really liking the Demarkus Lewis mix, good solid melodic groover, quality piece of music. Really like your original mix too, really nice laid back house groove. Excellent!

Original has that lovely deep edge with some nice bleepiness going on. Demarkus Lewis mix is also v. good, adds a really nice trippy/spacey feel to the track and lush pads. Will probably put it on my next mix, you rock!!!

Hans Temmerman (The Mystic Force)
Again, a stunning release! 4 fantastic mixes… the most impressive comes from Demarkus Lewis! Pure body2body music which will turn on everybody in da house! 9/10
