Hot on the heels of releases on Phil Week’s uber cool Robsoul imprint, and his “R Is For Remix” EP on this very label, Pete Dafeet is back with a bang with two new original tracks, complemented by a relentless Fred Everything remix. At 24, and with 34 tracks and remixes released on vinyl to date, Pete is forging a reputation as a bright young talent in UK house music. With this, his 4th full outing on Lost My Dog, the South London based producer displays the wide ranging and unique sounds that he is fast becoming known for.
‘Lungs’ is a real slow burner; bubbling acid rides over deep plodding bass and crisp percussion, while lush pads lend an atmospheric, old-school ambience. Pete’s own spoken vocal provides a coarse contrast to the polished intro, before a moody piano line takes over, tipping the track in a whole new direction. This one is full of emotion and instantly grabs all that hear it.
Pete showcases a more light hearted side to his sound with ‘Crackerjack’; a harmonious groover held in place by bouncing synth, filtered disco vocal, and deep warm bass. Dynamic, shuffling percussion keeps the track interesting whilst the main leads warp into a squelchy melee prior to the reintroduction of the killer groove to maximum effect.
Fred Everything needs little introduction having been at the top of the deep house game for the last decade with releases on labels including 2020 Vision, Om, Defected and his own Lazy Days. Fred really takes ‘Lungs’ into different territory and shows a slightly tougher edge to his usual sound, taking on the “Frederico Todos” persona first adopted for the Distant Star EP on Lazy Days. A pumping kick drum rides under a metallic bass/chords combo that will ignite any clued up dancefloor within the first bar. Pete’s vocal is processed into a brooding English drawl that sits perfectly over the moody, unhinged beats, whilst stripped back breakdowns and classic Everything percussion do all the damage. The inexorable excitement around this remix is brewing - it’s typical Fred Everything yet simultaneously some of his most innovative work to date; a combination that can’t fail to excite any fan of quality house music.
Magazine Reviews
iDJ – 4/5... It’s been a long long time since I’ve heard any goodness by Fred Everything, but the chaps at Lost My Dog have been kind enough to open this EP with a remix from everyone’s favourite Canadian – deep, slick and smoother than my bedside patter, there’s a real classic vibe to this slice. And Pete’s original isn’t too shabby either: harbouring lush synths and quirky acid line, this carries and almost Detroitian flavour. Plus it’s loaded with a groovy collection of retro hand claps – what more do you need?
Our House - 4/5... LMD are as reliable as a Rolex, every release is super solid, packs more punch than Ricky Hatton, contains more Beef than a butcher and this is no different. Pete’s penchant for a 303 is still in place as ‘Lungs’ takes you into typical Dafeet bubbling spacey atmospherics over a bouncy backdrop complete with P himself waxing lyrical before a sad piano enters the equation and really takes this beauty home. Canadian Fred Everything pulls one out of the bag and gives us one of best pieces in a while on the remix tip but my money is still on the original. ‘Crackerjack’ contains a grumpy ole synth pushing everything out of the way to stay centre of attention amongst Pete’s now trademark beats and warm bass, impressive stuff but I do hope they find they pooch sometime soon!
XLR8R... Pete Dafeet returns on his home base label, Lost My Dog, with a deep, acidic burner called 'Lungs'. The tune's spoken-word vocals, unique cadence, simple pianos, moving bassline and string synths recall that luvved-up, early 90's San Francisco vibe. Speaking of S.F., recent Bay Area transplant from Montreal Fred EVerything takes 'Lungs' to a darker place with an absolutely brilliant and versatile rework that could be played just about anywhere by just about anyone.

3 good tracks here. Respect for getting Fred involved on the remix front! My favourite though is Pete's original version of "Lungs" which has a nice understated feel to it that definitely works for me.
Leigh Morgan (Urbantorque)
Liking all 3 tracks on this, I've never really in to the bumpin style of house music, so this more smooth deep sound from Pete works a lot better for me. Nice tracks, and the Fred Everything mix is cool also, so will be getting use out of all three.
Oleg Wave
This release is really amazing! I'm loving all 3 tracks. Can't really pick the best one, all are excellent, with deep, even dreamy but very groovy mood. "Lungs" reminds me of some sweet acid house tunes of the 80's, but Pete has taken it to a new level now. Will be playing this release a lot! Full support!
