The Lowdown

Michelle Owen teams up with UK deep house label Lost My Dog to release her debut EP. Recently Michelle has released a solo production ‘Strange Days’ on a sampler for the well respected UK label Baker Street Recordings and a collaboration with James Flavour on leading German label Dirt Crew. The three tracks here on ‘Swing It EP’ highlight the diversity in her sound with funky, jacking, deep and techy influences all in evidence. Remixes are provided by the high-flying Pezzner, currently celebrating the release of his LP ‘The Tracks Are Alive’ on Freerange and Australian producer Murat Kilic.

Michelle Owen has been a DJ since 1998, playing all over the world including Love Parade 2008 (Dortmund), Ministry Of Sound (London), Manumission (Ibiza), Electrosplash (Valencia), Field Day Festival (Sydney) and Good Vibrations (Sydney). Half Italian and originally from Sydney, Australia, she moved overseas in 2007 to pursue her career in music which led her to live in Ibiza, London and Berlin, where she is now based. Along the way she has worked for SonyBMG in Australia, distribution company FUGA, London record store Phonica and two Sydney record stores and radio stations. She also ran her own label Eyelash Records and worked alongside Ben Watt at Buzzin’ Fly. Now in Berlin she works for Beatport and is a regular DJ at the city’s clubs. It’s fair to say she has a good grasp of the various aspects of the music industry! Having moved into production in recent times she now has her sights set on conquering yet another aspect of it.

Seattle’s Pezzner has become one of the most sought after artists in deep and tech house music over recent years. Having initially made his mark as one half of quirky house duo Jacob London on labels such as Classic, .dotbleep and U-Freqs, Pezzner began working as a solo artist in 2007 for Om, Blacksoul, Einmaleins, Rebirth and Freerange, for whom he has just released his debut album.

Murat Kilic is a well respected long time DJ in the Australian electronic music scene and a prolific producer of tech house, deep house and techno with releases over the last few years on some of the world’s most forward thinking labels including Stil Vor Talent (Berlin) and Stereo Seven Plus (Milan). He has also completed remixes for labels such as BEEF, Kaato, Subsonic, Long Distance and Tribal Vision. Murat is the founder, booker and resident DJ for one of Sydney’s longest running and best known after-hours club’s ‘SPICE’ held at HOME Terrace every week from 5am on Sunday.

  1. [...] That resonates with a quote another Beatport employee Michelle Owen (who also happens to be a Lost My Dog artist!) posted to Twitter this [...]

  2. [...] You can check out more of Pezzner’s fine releases on Freerange Records here, if you find some you like share the love and buy them. I always find endless intricacy in his tracks. Since picking up the promo I’ve been endlessly playing his remix of Michelle Owens – Dee & Deaf, out on the excellent Lost My Dog label. Here Pezzner took an electro swing style original track and turned it into a jacking deep house track. Full of sounds, fills and efx layered over a simple but ever so hooky pad riff. Great tension in the arrangement too. You can check it out here at the LMD website [...]
