The Lowdown
Another brand new signing for Lost My Dog as young Belgian producer Peckos joins the label for his first ever full original EP. The three tracks on ‘Belgian Nights EP’ show Peckos’ skill at crafting out Chicago-influenced, Mark Farina-styled jacking house alongside super deep and laid back grooves.
After experiencing classical music at a very young age, Peckos (aka Sven van Coillie from Leuven, Belgium) started his musical career in 2001 behind some local turntables, experimenting with different styles & genres – techno, electro, disco, club – they all went through the mixer. After deciding that his real passion lay in a more underground house sound in 2004 he began to claim residencies and performances in several clubs and bars in Belgium.
As with many DJs the natural progression was to production, in which Peckos began to take an interest in 2005. After four years experimenting in the studio the first results were finally ready and quickly snapped up by labels including Lost My Dog, Shak Digital and Bridge City. Another release from Peckos will follow on Lost My Dog in a few months featuring remixes from Raoul Belmans, Tommy Largo and Pete Dafeet.
Peckos credits his inspiration to the Belgian club scene, friends, a supportive girlfriend and adventurous globe travelling alongside his simple, profound love for electronic music and a healthy dose of perseverance and creativity. Those characteristics manifest themselves in Sven’s productions and DJ sets whether that’s booming beats, sensual sounds, g-spot grooves or mind-milking melodies.
The ‘Belgian Nights EP’ marks Lost My Dog’s tenth release in a very successful new series of digital-only EPs that have included music from artists such as Atnarko, Pete Dafeet, Kelvin K, Harold Heath, Chris Harris & Dominic Martin and Daniel Kyo.
Magazine Reviews
DMC Update – 5/5
One of the most happening house labels around at the moment again lifts its tail and lets fly with a force-ten blast of sexy, druggy, funky groove celebration from Belgium’s Peckos. There’s a touch of Chicago in the jacking and also the city’s underground in the Fear And Loathing-style intoxicant spiel littering ‘Recovery’. ‘Sensual Abduction’ is a deep, sultry groover while ‘Lost Nights’ burrows down further to find Satan washing a mole’s bottom in the sink. Fabulous stuff which, as ever with this label, recalls the classic late 80s-early 90s first peak of deepness but blessed with 20 years sonic evolution too. And they’re set to return to vinyl after the Pinnacle nightmare. Arf!
Beatburguer (Spain) – 3/4
