Timeless Banditz is a musical collaboration that brings together Debs Jarvis – a well respected underground house DJ and part of the legendary Babble Sound System; and Christina Wigmoe, former bass player with 90’s grebo rockers Crazyhead – once signed to Food Records along with Blur.
Musical influences are borrowed from Derrick Carter & Sneak – the tunes are put together with a cocktail of chopped up vocal and instrumental samples, deep bass and twisted beats.
Together Debs and Christina create a unique and original sound – think Inland Knights, The Littlemen and DiY with a dose of Chi-town flavour and you begin to understand what the Timeless Banditz sound is all about.
“Head First” combines deep driving basslines and crisp beats with infectious vocal samples. It represents the true sound of the underground and the free party scene in the Midlands. Matt J steps in to spice up Disco Drain with sharp punchy beats, jackin bass and synths which give a nod in the direction of Rob Mello.
Matt J has been churning productions out of his home studio in Hampshire and the studio’s at Guildford’s Academy of Contemporary Music for sometime now and so far has not gained the recognition his tracks deserve.
It was a dream come true when we were able to sift through his entire back catalogue and select his best tracks for release on Lost My Dog. Matt already has tracks out on digital label Southside Shuffle, but this is his first venture onto wax.
Matt’s style is based around shuffling percussion and whirring synths and this is shown perfectly in Sonic Signal; a big record that will destroy floors and which received support from Sonny Wharton, Phil Weeks, Junia Ovadose and Natural Rhythm after being included on the Lost My Dog sampler.
Its pounding beats and rolling bass drop into a dark moody breakdown before the energy slams back in. Ol’ Dub introduces some twisted samples and a throbbing bouncing acidic bass which unite to form a dirty jacking track.
Night Magazine / Infusion – July 05
After two cracking releases to kick the label off, the third instalment from LMD is another winner. Timeless Banditz drop two cuts; ‘Disco Drain’, remixed by Matt J & ‘Head First’ & it’s the Matt J remix which is the better of the two. A really bumpin’ bassline & subtle use of effects create a really strong groove. ‘Head First’ is very original, but doesn’t quite get going enough for these ears. Next Matt J’s ‘Sonic Signal’ really lifts things, a superb bouncing track with a killer bassline, definitely the most floor-friendly of the EP. Lastly ‘Ol Dub’ rounds things off in an off-kilter way, with Mr Oizo style bass & some neat drums. 4/4

TTR Magazine – June 05
Deborah Jarvis and Christina Wigmoe aka Timeless Banditz combine forces with Matt J to present this 4 tracker of finger snappin’ house grooves. “Disco Train (Matt J rework)” has cascading drums, warm synths and jacking bass line. “Head First” is techier in feel, with bleeping effects and soft vocal stabs. Matt J’s “Sonic Signal” has a big room, tribal feel whilst maintaining a house ethos, with whirring effects and complex sample ideas. Finally “Ol’ Dub” jacks it up, with squirting sythns and old school bass line. 3/5
