The Lowdown

Tom Taylor and Gareth Whitehead get together in the studio again for their second outing on Lost My Dog, this time aided by the legendary songwriting talent and vocals of Robert Owens. ‘I Came To Dance’ comes in various forms – the original mix has a heavy nod to the unmistakable house sound of Detroit’s Inner City/Kevin Saunderson and the ‘Deepened Mix’ also by Tom and Gareth goes deeper with a gritty rolling groove. Two versions by Pete Dafeet take in acidic warehouse flavours and a reprise rounds off the release, perfect for those slow burning set-opening requirements.

Who’s involved?
Robert Owens is one of the most recognised vocalists in house music, coming to prominence in the late-’80s golden era of Chicago house as Fingers Inc. with Ron Wilson, and working alongside Larry Heard. Highlights over the following years include ‘I’ll Be Your Friend’, ‘Tears’ (with Frankie Knuckles and Satoshi Tomiie) and ‘Low Life’ (Layo & Bushwacka), but in truth the list of stand out tracks is almost endless. More latterly Owens has worked with Ralf Gum, Jet Project, DJ Spen, Atjazz and Jimpster.

Tom Taylor and his label 2Pin Records build on the success he found as one half of The Electric Press. He holds a wealth of accolades most producers would kill for including the hit ‘Reevaluate’ on 2020 Vision and remixes of Daft Punk, Kelis, Erykah Baduh, Armand Van Helden and DJ T. Recent work has seen him release under the funk inspired guise Celestial as well as deeper house moments under his own name supported by the likes of Steve Bug, Josh Wink and Ben Watt.

Gareth Whitehead is a vastly experienced producer, engineer, DJ and artist who has established his own signature brand of deep, dubby tech-house and minimal. As a label owner he set up techno label Edit/Select with Soma legend Percy X and in 2007 established his own Bulletdodge Records. Gareth has released music on labels such as Naked Lunch, Parallel 125 and Safari Numerique, receiving support form the likes of Joris Voorn, Slam, Anja Schneider and Ricardo Villalobos. This marks Gareth’s third outing on Lost My Dog following previous appearances with Tom Taylor and Random Factor.

Lost My Dog boss Pete Dafeet keeps up his heavy schedule of 2012. These remixes come hot on the heels of his new EP ‘Freeze’, a spot on the label’s Sonar Music 2012 release, and in the run up to his full length ‘Family Affair’ project, released in September. Pete has recently flown the Lost My Dog flag at events at Fabric, Off Sonar, Muak and on a tour of North America.
