The Lowdown

Danny Stott follows up his debut Lost My Dog release ‘Circuits’ from back in March with a pair of deep and ultra-groovy house cuts that further enhance his reputation as a real talent to watch closely. Stott has also recently caught the eyes and ears of Urbantorque, Grouper, Dutchie, 3am, Night Drive Music and several of Tony Thomas’ deeper imprints. On remix duty is another Lost My Dog regular Atnarko who takes things deeper still with a bassbin bothering sub, and Lee Jarvis, recently re-located to Chicago and firmly picking up on the city’s trademark house sound.

Danny describes his sound as “warm house with plenty of energy…I think there’s usually a slight classic house influence to my tracks”, something that is clearly in evidence on this release. As for his route into dance music, Danny doesn’t have the usual tale of hanging round local nights waiting for his big moment: “Burnley doesn’t have a thriving house scene so my DJ background isn’t brilliant, I’ve run a few nights on and off around Burnley in the past, but they were small nights, which was all good fun but doesn’t look good on paper!!” And as for future plans: “Basically just to keep enjoying making house music and any DJing work that comes in as a result would be a massive bonus.”

Atnarko is the Orlando-based producer and co-owner of Eight-Tracks Records (alongside Q-Burns Abstract Message). His music has been bothering dancefloors since the turn of the century on underground imprints like Nightshift, Tango, Lowdown and Robsoul. Along the way he’s teamed up in a variety of collaborations with folks as varied as deep house done Patrick Turner, drum ‘n’ bass eradicator AK1200, Chicago house-diva DJ Heather and British house-legend Huggy as ‘Formidable Force’ for 2020 Vision. His recent ‘Strange Days EP’ for Lost My Dog is still flying off the virtual shelves and we needed another dose of his sun-drenched Floridian deepness to warm us up for the impending UK winter.

Recently re-located from London to Chicago, Lee Jarvis has amassed a wide range of experiences including working for Freerange Records and running respected London clubnight Moochin. Since first recording for Lost My dog on ‘The Mongrel EP’ in 2008, Lee has gone on to work with 1200 Traxx, Mutate Records, Llama Farm, Fazed Music and Clean House.

Magazine Reviews

Only House Music

DJ Reactions

Mark Farina: atnarko’s mix is poppin’ for me.

Diz: Another gem from LMD camp.. cheers big ears!!

Shane Johnson (Fish Go Deep): Like the vibe on Bubble Pop, lovely warm sounds. Will be playing.

Agnes: Yeah bubble pop is cool for me!!!

Scope: nice deep and funky stuff from dan the man! Atnarko mix is my fav… will spin out for sure!

DJ Linus: Brilliant deep house!

Jason Hodges: Quality deepness,LMD is on FIRE!

Nick Holder: 5/5 Great ep!

Asad Rizvi: Lovely mixes all round though I think my pick of the bunch is Bubble Pop… reminds me of old Silver Network stuff. Fab!

Gramophonedzie: Lee Jarvis rmx is superb!

Giom: Atnarko’s mix is my favourite, but i’ll also try Lee’s mix out, both totally different yet both great! Good stuff as usual…

DJ Mes: proper gear here, thanks guys!

Jay West: all 4 tracks are very good, hard to pick a favourite… Lee Jarvis is back with style here!

The Littlemen: likin the original best – phat deepness.

Jesus Gonsev: Atnarko remix is my tune!!

Mr White: great set of remixes from lost my dog again ! atnarko and lee jarvis both deliver.
Raoul Belmans: Dope after summer grooves!

Murray Richardson: great mixes all round, well into the lee jarvis mix!

Kirby: Atnarkomeister remix is Greaaat !! Nice keys, moody, groovy, i def love this one.

Tommy Largo: feeling the atnarko remix the most. will play and chart.

Matt Rhythm Plate: the original mix is really cool, i like the bubbling bassline and also the chord riff. atnarko remix is proper deep, like drowning in a sea of fudge. scary but tasty. ‘bubble pop’ is my favourite track on the EP. nice rolling groove with just the right level of syncopation to keep it uncluttered yet interesting. all round a really cool EP.

Da Sunlounge: Atnarko is bringing the vibe to me once again. mind you the lee Jarvis mix is also very cool.

Joshua Heath: Atnarko doin his moody smooth wet thing on this one, love it! bubble pop is nice as well

Al Bradley: More great beats from LMD, Danny’s original’s are both cracking tracks & are showing that he has a definite sound to call his own. Lee’s mix is very cool, a fresh sounding bumper, but it’s Atnarko’s gorgeous deep mix which takes the prize for me, top notch grooves for discerning floors.

The Lowdown

Lost My Dog welcome Atnarko to the label for his debut original EP, a super deep and groovy three-tracker, which will be released on 16th March 2009. The Orlando producer, who co-owns the Eight-Tracks imprint, has recently remixed Daniel Kyo’s ‘Hypnotized’ and Nonfiction’s ‘P Power’ for Lost My Dog and impressed us so much we wanted to give him a bigger project.

Atnarko’s sleek productions, which he describes as “funky and fun”, have been pressed for underground imprints like Nightshift, Tango, Lowdown and Robsoul. Through his career he has joined Patrick Turner for the ‘Explicit Theory’ project and has worked with folks as varied as drum ‘n’ bass eradicator AK1200 and house-diva DJ Heather. His collaborations with British house-legend Huggy as ‘Formidable Force’ for the 2020 Vision label landed in the record crates of the world’s top house DJs who prized the duo’s quirky, yet floor-movin’ vibes.

Atnarko has licensed tracks to many compilations including OM, Fabric, Large, Street Beat and Fat City. He is also an in-demand remixer and well travelled club DJ who wants nothing more than to “drop a groove down your spine (and inspire a smile on your face)”.

His long-time relationship with the like-minded Q-Burns Abstract Message continues to renew his creative energies. Their monthly “Club Queso” event is known as one of Orlando and New York’s most notorious (and intoxicated) nights of four-on-the-floor debauchery: “Things tend to get pretty crazy there, and costumes are usually warranted.” Atnarko also co-owns EIGHT-TRACKS, a vinyl based label dedicated to releasing conceptual house music with a
post-modernist—read: subversive—slant.

Magazine Reviews

DMC Update – 5/5

Lost My Dog is without doubt one of the finest UK underground house labels, cocking its leg since 2005 and squirting deep house gold: not overdoing it but putting quality over quantity. Danny Stott has appeared on Grouper, Dutchie and Tony Thomas’ New Era and Ambiosphere labels. Obviously a talent to watch with that essential house-techno grounding and knowledge essential for making quality tackle, thus ‘Circuits’ bristles with solid-bodied techno keyboard riffs and insidious groove-power but, most essential of all, is shot with its creators soul, stoking that indefinable feeling of warm elation which the best electronic dance music brings while trampling any category divides in the process. The Dub injects NY flavours, a route also pursued when Brighton’s Harold Heath comes in for a couple of sublime remixes armed with new bassline and deep texrtures which recall such giants as Wayne Gardner. I’ve used the dog’s bollocks line before but this wonderful package will sure be impossible to shake off once it starts humping your leg.

iDJ Mag – 7/10

There’s mucho quality amidst the trio of tracks on offer from the Orlando dude. All three are, as befits someone who counts Q-Burns as a bosom busy, typically deep and subtly jazzy but it’s the quirky ‘Doom Doom’ that works best. Bumping tribal with a hint of acid and some shimmering synths, it’s made by the ‘doom doom’ vocal riff of the title.

Our House Mag

Sublime deep grooves from Florida based, Antarko. On this EP you will 3 distinctly beautiful tracks, ‘Wrapped’ featuring Liz Bowman, ‘Know It’ and my personal favourite ‘Doom Doom’. With all the 3 tracks you can feel the Florida sunshine and obviously a very topical choice with WMC ’09 being only a matter of weeks away. Feel the warmth, feel the love this is deep house heaven.

DJ Reactions

Jimpster: Doom Doom is great. Will spin it. cheers

Johnny Fiasco: Atnarko is on fire…

Nathan Coles: Another splendid release by Lost My Dog… bloody marvelous!

Tom Findlay: Loving Wrapped and Doom Doom fresh approach to vocals

Marlon D: dark and deep. Hot!

Jason Hodges: Another solid EP from a solid label!

Nick Holder: Wrapped is the choice cut for me on this assemblage of goodies!

Jay West: always trustable beats from dave’s camp!

Demarkus Lewis: Nice one.. ‘the deep is in full effect’

Rhythm Plate: OOoooo deeeep innit, wrapped is enveloping, doom doom is deep deep bass bass happy happy.

Shur-i-kan: Enjoying these thanks, deep and dubby.

Pete Moss: Hot! 5/5

Joshua Heath: Wrapped up is fuckin marvelous. Love that super deep chuggin vibe.

Rocco (Rodamaal): Doom Doom is my fav from this EP which is really nice. Groovy and deep at his best

Kelvin K: Great super late-nite vibes from Atnarko

Catalogue Number: LMDX004
Release Date: December 2008

1: Original Mix
2: Atnarko’s Middle Mix
3: YSE Re-Rub
4: Giano Dub

The Lowdown

Sandwiched inbetween San Diego and Los Angeles is Orange County, home to the club night Focus which is world renowned for attracting the leaders of the underground; Derrick Carter is a regular along with Doc Martin, Diz, DJ Sneak, DJ Heather and Ian Pooley. The man responsible for resident DJ duties at Focus is Lost My Dog’s latest signing Nonfiction, who delivers a funky, jacking houser ‘P Power’, which comes backed by remixes from Atnarko, YSE and Giano.

Always one to take the road less traveled, Nonfiction (real name Jose Tobar) plays by his own rules, mixing elements of house, tech, funk, hip hop, soul and electro. Having started out in the early days as a hip hop DJ, he grew tired of feeling like a “human jukebox” and switched full time to the carefree spirit of house and dance music that he had always had an affinity for. A self-confessed production geek, Nonfiction spends all his days and nights locked in his studio, which has so far led to two EPs working alongside respected vocalist E-Man (most famous for his vocal on Jon Cutlers classic ‘It’s Yours).

A tasty remix package of rapidly up and coming producers complements the original mix. Atnarko’s bass heavy productions have seen him release music on Robsoul, Tango, Lowdown and also on 2020 Vision under the name Formidable Force alongside Huggy. His remix of Daniel Kyo’s ‘Hypnotized’ on LMDX002 impressed us so much we couldn’t wait to get him involved again.

YSE (more widely known as one half of Rhythm Plate) is a firm favourite at Lost My Dog, so much so that we try not to let any other labels near him! His two EPs ‘Bounce Back’ and ‘Not Wot You Got’ have been superbly received and his remix of ‘P Power’ here only helps to cement his reputation as one of the brightest talents in UK deep house.

Finally, we’re back to California for a remix from Giano. Giano came to the attention of LMD after his excellent EP earlier in 2008 for Fred Everything’s Lazy Days label. His own impressive label Italiano Recordings and his close friendship with Nonfiction sealed the deal.

Magazine Reviews

DMC Update – 5/5
Jose Tobar, aka Nonfiction, is resident DJ at Focus, the Orange County club where Derrick Carter is a regular guest, and ‘P Power’ is something of an anthem, which is then taken into further realms of spaced coolness with a trio of stunning remixes. The original plants the female bathroom chart over a funked-up chant over a funked-up house-vamp peppered with Princey riffage. The remixes come from Atnarko, who’s appeared on 2020 with Basics legend Huggy as Formidable Force and remixed earlier LMD single ‘Hypnotized’ by Daniel Kyo, here throwing melodies and riffs with contagious abandon; YSE, half of Rhythm Plate, responsible for ‘Bounce Back’ and ‘Not Wot you Got’ for LMD, who uncorks a wigged-out take on the 80′s boogie sound. Finally, Nonfiction’s Californian mate Giano, who runs Italiano Recordings, opts for a deep bass=propelled groover.

DJ Broadcast – #25 in top releases
hey fellas, quality release here. i can normally say one is my hands down favorite, but each of these def has its own place in the set. Gianos mix has that nice steady chug to it, good for the ‘last’ call’ part of your set.. Anartkos mix has that wonderful deep vibe that really sets the proper pace for your set. The YSE mix has that perfect 80′s gooeyness that I LOVE!! Nonfiction has that bass heaviness that the system loves too. So, nice well rounded package here boys.

2: Hypnotized (Kelvin K Remix)
3: Hypnotized (Atnarko’s Bump Mix)
4: Hypnotized (Original Mix)

The Lowdown

Spain’s Daniel Kyo (Dani Perez to his mum) joins the Lost My Dog ranks, and keeps the label’s ethos of working with up and coming producers alongside more established names going. So far the Valencia based producer has found success as one half of Subharmonics, who have impressed with music for Magnolia Digital, Zoomer Community, Addicted Music and most recently Loudeast Records. Dani has a love of “atmospheric harmonies, deep sounds and groovy rhythms”, something which his two original tracks showcase perfectly on ‘The Droid EP’.

Kelvin K provides the first remix. Born in England, but brought up in the San Francisco Bay area, Kelvin is now back in Brighton. This San Francisco upbringing, alongside a move to Philadelphia where he became acquainted with Josh Wink and King Britt, goes a long way to explain some of the slick deep house grooves he creates. Add to this the fact he worked as studio manager at the infamous Moulton Studios, home to the likes of Miguel Migs, Jay J and Chris Lum, and you know Kelvin K will create some of the best deep house on offer. As a result, Kelvin comes from the school of quality not quantity; he works to develop strong bonds with labels and only releases music that he believes to be the best he can produce. Having said that, the quality is so good that he’s had releases on some of the best labels out there including Nordic Trax, Tango, Nightshift and Multitracked, and his records tend to be the ones that stick around in boxes for a long time. We were extremely happy at LMD HQ when Kelvin agreed to remix ‘Hypnotized’ because we know he doesn’t just take on any old project.

Also on remix duty is Orlando based Atnarko, who co-owns the Eight-Tracks imprint with Q-Burns Abstract Message. Atnarko’s own sleek productions, which he describes quite simply as “funky and fun”, have been pressed for underground imprints like Nightshift Recordings, Tango, Lowdown and Robsoul. He joined Patrick Turner for “Explicit Theory” and has worked with folks as varied as drum ‘n’ bass eradicator AK1200 and house-diva DJ Heather. His collaborations with British house-legend Huggy as “Formidable Force” for the 2020 Vision label landed in the record crates of the world’s top house DJs who prized their quirky, yet floor-movin’ vibes.

Magazine Reviews

iDJ – 4/5
As if to emphasise the fact that he’s one to watch, here’s Daniel Kyo again with two more shimmering melodic housers. Once again his cuts are bang on the money but they’re outdone by some pretty special remixes of ‘Hypnotized’ from Kelvin K and Atnarko respectively. Both, in their different ways, are so deep they more than live up to the track’s title.

DJ Reactions
