Catalogue Number: LMD023
Release Date: October 2008

A1: Dub People
A2: Dub People (Burnski Open House Mix)
B1: Dark Daze
B2: Took My Love

The Lowdown

Lost My Dog refuse to be pigeon-holed once again; following up recent funky and soulful outings from East St Louis Players and Bernard Jones, release number 23, by contrast, is a solid, driving deep/tech EP aimed at dark sweaty clubs with low ceilings and perhaps the occasional red light. Reform Recordings’ Nick Dare is the main man with three original tracks, complimented by a Burnski remix.

Nick Dare’s music productions and record label have been making quite an impact since the turn of the century. His label Reform Recordings has been responsible for much of his output, under the names Nick Dare, Liquid Dreams and Overdrive (his project with Justin Drake from Peace Division). His tracks have been supported by leading DJs including X-Press 2, Tom Stephan, and Paul Woolford. As well as this EP for Lost My Dog, Nick has signed recent EPs to Detour and Wiggle.

In addition to his productions, with over 15 years DJ experience and an innate ability to read the crowd, Nick’s DJ sets are highly sought after and encompass a sublime mix of jacking underground house and tech grooves. His skills have seen him play all over the UK with highlights including Fabric, The End, EGG and Escape (Brighton) as well as guest dates in Europe.

Burnski is the man drafted in for the remix. Fresh from his reworking of X-Press 2’s ‘Smoke Machine’ for Skint Records, which attracted support from John Digweed, and impressive releases for 2020 Vision and Boe Recordings, Burnski is currently in demand. He first attracted the interest of Lost My Dog in 2006 when the label was run from Middlesbrough; Burnski lived in nearby Hartlepool and was invited along to DJ at a couple of parties. He was asked to provide two remixes of YSE’s ‘Bounce Back’ for the label in early 2007 and his ‘Back To Deep Remix’ went on to be the label’s biggest selling download to date, with vinyl copies still steadily rolling out all over the world. Burnski’s talent to get massive energy out of deep grooves is second to none and Lost My Dog are huge fans of his sound.

Magazine Reviews

iDJ – 4/5
Loadsa quality on show here. Three tracks from Dare, all shining examples of that peculiarly British flavour of tech house meets deep house locked-in groove. Thunk and funk. And not least Burnski’s Remix which could well be all things to all people: bumping yet gliding, full of late night shimmer and still with plenty of peak-time appeal.

Only For DJs – 3/4
The original is well boompty, with low generous bass to complement the groove. Burnski returns a remix which is more deep and subtle.

Jaypress
A great deep/tech house release from this ever more interesting label comes from Nick Dare who is in fact the man behind Reform Records. This EP will really shake up the floors and as a great added bonus there is even included a remix of ‘Dub People’ by Burnski that will blow your bass bins!!!”

DJ Reactions

Tom Findlay (Groove Armada)
Burnski mix is excellent – it’s deep but it’s also wide, high and heavy!

Milton Jackson
Love the dark relentless groove of the Burnski Mix.

MANDY
Burnski mix is amazing! Two thumbs up!

Laurent Garnier
Will fit my long sets perfectly

Jody Wisternoff

Mazi
I’ve dearly missed this kind of understated yet powerful house music. Beautiful!

Satoshi Fumi
Love Burnski Remix, deep and smooth, definite plays

Hipp-E

James Talk
Burnski Mix is dope.

Ralph Lawson
Solid lads.

Lawnchair Generals
Been bangin’ ‘Took My Love’ for months. Job well done.

Luke Solomon
Old school, but still cool

Harold Heath
All 4 totally up my street, top EP!

Adam Collins/Omni AM
Damn, this is some of the hottest deep house since the days of Luxury Service!

Eddie Leader
Loving both mixes of Dub People.

Orde Miekle (Slam)
This is good

Murray richardson
Well into burnski’s mix of this and dark daze is top too!

SCOPE
Dub People (Original & Remix) are both quality! Took My Love aint too shabby either.. Nice!
f Dub People and Dark Daze will work beautifully! Dub indeed; I’ve dearly missed this kind of understated yet powerful house music.

Corrie
Nice deep house package. Burnski remix is the best pick for me. Cheers

SL Curtiz (Slammin Muzik)
“Took my love” for me ;-)

Steve Parry
All 3 original tracks are cool.

Lee Jarvis
What a fantastic EP. All the cuts are proper sweaty club music and will receive plenty of plays from myself!

Daniel Kyo
The Ep is a good view of refurbished Jackin House!REally nice grooves!

Don Tinsley
I’m really diggin Take My Love, but Dub People original and Burnski’s mixes are top notch as well. Propper LMD!

Frank Solano
Took my love is my fav of the bunch, nice deep, but very driving house music

Danny Tenaglia
Good

Bryan James (Dirtybird)
All mixes will get play, nice deep house vibe i’ve been feeling lately.

Nathan Coles
This is good

Bernard Jones / East St. Louis Players
Nick did a remix for one of my upcoming releases that was stellar. With this follow up I realize he’s got the pulse of todays deep dubby sound!

Dominic Martin
I’m a fan of Burnski’s productions, he has mastered that most difficult art of making great tracks which don’t necessarily do alot but are never boring. good stuff.

Al Bradley
Quality all the way here, tough to pick a favourite track. All three originals are very cool & useable vibes, ‘Dark Daze’ probably the one I’ll get most use out of as it’s got such a superb wobbly bass. Burnski again proves his worth, his remix sounding like the kind of stuff that used to be used as warm-up/mid set stuff at Basics when it as at Mint Club, which was generally superb warm sounding house – definitely going to be a Buged Out regular track!

Magnus Asberg(C-Soul)
Nice deep techy house on display here good production..Will play.. My pick would be Dark Daze

John Davis (Headtunes)
Dark Daze is my overall fav but can see myself dropping that and Took My Love… Both are dark quirky and excellently produced. A Solid release from LMD yet again

Blacksoul
LMD keeps spreading quality music – love this one!!

Danny White
Nice tuff stuff, dark daze and burnski’s remix of dub people are the pick of the bunch for me

Still Rob G (Om Records)
F**kin dope ep! love dub ppl og & the burnski remix. dark daze will get the most play i’m sure.. its pure dancefloor. took my love is nice as well.

Neil Bainbridge (Shindig)
Fantastic Dubby house, just what i was hoping from before i listened.Burnski’s remix is very very good

Oleg Wave
This release really stand out among others for its dark and fat groovy sound. This will keep people dancing for sure. Every track is solid and energetic

Joshua Heath
I dig the original dub people. good moddy shit right there.. Will def get some play at my sweatier gigs :-) Took my Love could get some play too..

Lauris Lee / RyRalio DJs
Dark Daze real underground tune! Nice production and proper bass line. Will play it out!

Q-Burns abstract Message
Original Dub People is totally the one for me … nice keys & rhythms, and I like the placement of the vocal drops (and I usually don’t go for vocal drops). Splendid stuff .. cheers for it.

Craig Hamilton
LMD is at it again, one of the most consistent labels out there & this release is proof of that statement. Dub people is something i can see myself playing for quite sometime. Deep synthy pads & stabs compliment a very well programmed bassline. Took my love on the other hand reminds me a lot of the old barrio brothers stuff, with its deep synthy bassline & old school vocals. Another winner all round, will be playing this out for sure. dark daze and took my love are excellent. Loving the darker vibe – keep it up LMD and watch out 20:20!

Mike W
HOLY HELL! what a release! every single track on here is something I would play but after many many listens to TRY and pick a favorite, I have to go with Took My Love .. but it’s like choosing between children! What a great EP from Nick, Burnski, and the boys @ LMD!

santiago (santiago & bushido)
Overall great EP – love the deep techy vibe!

DA SUNLOUNGE
Nice Vibe. love the bouncy feel of Dub People. Dark Daze is also growing on me.

Andrew Phelan
Love the way the happier vocal snippets in Took My Love play off the darker elements of the track.

Mieka Du Franx
The Burnski DUb is superb, love the classic groove. I’m also gonna rock Dark Daze track coz it’s nice & dirty Took My Love is butter. All around, this EP is tops.

Jay Tripwire
I like the burski remix the best, really nice and i will be playing that, reminds me of soemthing on compost black .

Paul Hardy
A Great EP, Deep deep, Lovin Burnski mix

Hector Romero
Nice jackin’ feelin’

The Lowdown

YSE aka Ant Plate is one half of Rhythm Plate along with Matt Rhythm, two friends who met at school through a mutual love of shoplifting and warm real ale. Hailing from the beautifully backward peak district town of Matlock, in Derbyshire, Ant and Matt began recording their efforts on a borrowed 8-track tape player down in the local bus station. Early attempts at pop stardom, however, were hampered by the duo’s crippling tourette’s syndrome. After conquering the bourgeoning village hall/pub scene in Matlock they set their sights on taking over the midlands through collaborations with Mantis (Derby), DiY and Winding Road (Nottingham) and Flat & Round (Manchester) – they find the transpeak bus service a particularly useful way of getting to gigs – and then eventually the world, by releasing material on labels “not from ’round ‘ere” such as San Diego’s Blue:m, San Francisco’s Roam and Portland’s Losofono (LSF). At present Plate sells deep house insurance. Should the need arise, however, he is willing to travel to DJing gigs with his much-sought-after collection of cassette singles at the ready.

This is Ant’s second solo release for Lost My Dog and shows that he is fast becoming a force to be reckoned with on the deep house scene.

Make no mistakes; ‘Bounce Back’ is a massive release for us here at Lost My Dog, and a case in point for UK deep house. We’ve been sat on this release for several months like greedy schoolboys, and have road tested it with wide eyed glee at every opportunity. A few advance CDs we slipped out before Christmas did nothing to knock our enthusiasm – Derrick Carter, Phil Weeks and Jason Hodges all reported back with grins larger than the Cheshire cat. From the very first listen Bounce Back has instant appeal and if the garage style bass, bubbling synths and striking piano form the track’s roots, it’s the raw, almost coarse, vocal and spine tingling breakdowns which forge the track’s distinctive identity – YSE knows how to make house music, and in our opinion house music doesn’t get much better than this. Rounding off the A-side, ‘Possible Word’ is more akin to the tried and tested Rhythm Plate sound; warm and inviting in every way. The sultry spoken vocal and smooth pads coax the listener into uninhibited contentment while the groove does ALL the work.

2020 Vision prodigy Burnski is drafted in for remix duties on ‘Bounce Back’. Hailing from Hartlepool, just down the road from LMD HQ in Middlesbrough, the future is bright for the lad who began his musical career bunking a science exam to go and buy some turntables. At only 21 he’s already racked up releases on Infant, Trapez and Morris Audio, not to mention remixes and an album commission in the bag from Ralph Lawson’s Leeds house institution. His ‘3rd Time Lucky Mix’ combines gritty, crunchy drums with floating pads and filtered vocal snippets, while his ‘Back To Deep Mix’ is a subterranean affair; super deep bass and meticulous percussion reminiscent of Dano, Chus and Cebellos’ iconic “Deep Architecture”, released on 2020 Vision back in 2002.

We just hope you enjoy this release as much as we do!

Magazine Reviews

iDJ
A collab between Ant ‘Rhythm’ Plate and Lost My Dog, with 2020 upstart Burnski on the mix. It’s got to be a winner, right? It sure is. ‘Bounce Back’ has that chunky afterhours deep house thang down to a tee, like a collaboration between Ame, Derrick Carter and DIY. Burnski offers up two tasty flipside rubs, of which the stripped-down Back To Deep version is the pick. Proper 6am casualty fodder and no mistake. Nice. 4/5 MA

The improbability named Ant Plate is one half of Matlock’s finest Rhythm Plate. His name, coupled with the kudos of the label, should already have every self-respecting deep house nut getting their wallet out. Rugged drums, old skool bass, wiggle – classic stuff indeed, no wonder LMD are going potty about this. The spoken vocal of ‘Possible Word’ and two remixes by Burnski are just as rewarding. 4/5. JT.

DJ
The original version is deep, experimental, soft touch acidic house with enough swing and motion to move yer ass as if it was waxed with funk lotion. ‘Possible Word’ is a tense groove with a female spoken word in tow that works real well. Two more hefty mixes of ‘Bounce Back’ mingle deepness and funk for the floor. Lock onto the funky-ass mixes and forget that this shit came from Matlock for a moment, let’s be somewhere much more exotic. Four solid tunes to utilise. 4/5.

Update
Hailing from Derbyshire, Ant Plate aka YSE loves warm real ale and deep house. Sounding like Larry Heard gone electro-house, ‘Bounce Back1, his second solo release for Lost My Dog, is a lush, classy groove that1s a little loony and well catchy. On the flip 2020 Vision1s Burnski mixes turns out a couple of deeper interpretations. 4/5

Ant Plate and Matt Rhythm obviously have a good sense of humour as their LMD website biog has such in depth quotes as ‘early attempts at pop stardom, were hampered by the duo’s crippling tourette’s syndrome’ and ‘at present Plate sells deep house insurance and Rhythm is a dancer’. I had to listen to this ep a few times before it etched itself firmly on my brain and thus I’ve found myself randomly shouting ‘Bounce Back’ in various stages throughout my day to day life. I included the original in my last podcast and it’s in a mix that the production shines through with a steady piano stab throughout and the ‘bounce back ‘ vocal looping towards the end of the track. Two remixes from LMD stable hand Burnski keep things deep and dubby in tune with the labels ethos, as is YSE’s other track on the ep ‘possible word’. One of my favourite labels at present and the Boro boys have done it again!

BounceBack (original): This is just awesome. 9out of 10 for me! Hot, in every way. Possible Word: It’s so nice (and rare) to hear great deep house. YSE consistently brings the deepness, proper. 9 of 10. Bounce Back (Burnski RMX 1): Great track…will dance to. Not for me to play. Bounce Back (Burnski RMX 2). Top work here. Simple, moody, driving. Love the big ride. 8-10.

Great stuff, definitely the best LMD yet for me. I’m into both YSE tracks. hard to pick a favourite between them but if pushed i’m a bit of a sucker for deep chord progressions so i’d go for “Possible Word”. More like this please!

John Davis (Headtunes)
For me the one is definitely the original mix of ‘Possible world’. I love it. Deep but still a rocker. 8/10 – Feeling the Original Mix of Bounce Back the most, especially love the piano rhythm with that funky bass riff. The Burnski 3rd Time Lucky Mix is nice also and I played it last night on my show. It is also the one which will work best out in the clubs
