The Lowdown

‘Clips & Space’ is the first mix compilation from Giom, one of the deep house scene’s current hottest players and undoubted future megastar. The project was born when Giom approached Lost My Dog asking if he could create a mix of his favourite LMD moments. As huge fans of Giom, and having built up a close relationship with him throughout 2010, we doggers jumped, barked and licked at the opportunity.

The result is a 17 track mix containing 4 brand new and exclusive Giom tracks, remixes and re-edits, expertly woven in alongside his picks from Lost My Dog’s extensive six year catalogue. Artists featured on the mix include Bleep District, YSE, Pezzner, Atjazz, Inland Knights, Bang Bang and Jay West. It will be released in May on CD and digital download formats, with individual track downloads also available. Giom will launch the compilation at Fabric on 7th May.

Giom, originally from Niort in France, has been one of the most exciting artists in the deep house genre over the past couple of years. He has collaborated with, and remixed, artists including Fred Everything, JT Donaldson and LawnChair Generals, as well as releasing his original music for Amenti, Ornate and DJ Heather’s Blackcherry. His infectious blend of deep, funky and fun house has made him one of the most in demand producers and remixers right now.

Giom’s relationship with Lost My Dog began at the Sonar festival in 2009 after a chance encounter at the LMD terrace party. Everyone hit it off and the Frenchman was soon remixing Bang Bang and Bleep District, before penning his own ‘Things U Do EP’, which hit the top 10 charts of Beatport, Stompy and Traxsource. His ‘Unreleased Remixes’ was released in early 2011 to similar success.

‘Family Affair’ is a new series of full-length projects from Lost My Dog Records which shine a spotlight on the artists that have shaped the sound of the label. The collection will be released as a digital download package of the DJ mix and individual track downloads in February 2011.

Harold Heath’s first outing on Lost My Dog was in 2006 after he contacted the label asking to remix Adam B’s ‘Smoketoke’. As long-time fans of Harold’s music, it was a no brainer to take him up on the opportunity and launched a relationship which has seen the Brighton based DJ and producer release three EPs and six remixes for the careless canine owners. Supporters of Harold’s music on Lost My Dog have been wide ranging, including Tony Humphries, CJ Mackintosh, Mark Farina, Roger Sanchez and even Fedde Le Grand, who included ‘Streets Keep Rocking’ on his Ministry of Sound Sessions mix CD.

Harold Heath’s illustrious career began around the turn of the century and has earned him a reputation as one of the most consistent yet unsung heroes in UK house music. Aside form Lost My Dog his discography includes some of the worlds most respected underground labels including Detour, Plastic City, Stickman, Uhuru Beats, Oblong, Sensei and Urban Torque. It was for Urban Torque that he recorded his debut album ‘Hole Funk’.

The Lowdown

One of Lost My Dog’s new signings from 2009 has ‘done a Clarke Kent’ and comes spinning out of the proverbial telephone booth as Roland Nights in 2010. Roland Nights penned three original tracks and two remixes for LMD last year under his Danny Stott name and felt the time was right to take things in a new direction. So far it’s working well as Roland has released a stunning EP and remixed Tom Middleton for Urbantorque, as well as remixing Jay West for Lost My Dog. The year ahead is looking bright for the Burnley based producer with several more projects in the pipeline.

‘Phazz’ comes backed with remixes from Vernon & DaCosta and tONKPROJECT, as well as more familiar Lost My Dog contributors Dominic Martin, Peckos and Artie Flexs. The Vernon & DaCosta remix was included on the label’s recent Miami Sampler and received huge support, including most notably from Mark Farina with whom it has become a DJ set staple.

Vernon & DaCosta are the Belgian duo who never fail to bump the dancefloor with their own blend of deep, funky house that has appeared on labels including Om, Robsoul, Aroma and Blockhead.

tONKPROJECT has made a name for himself over the past 12 months with his killer grooves appearing on standout releases for Urbantorque, Elevation, Behaviors and Proton.

Dominic Martin is currently riding high as his ‘East Glasgow Deep EP’ for Lost My Dog is causing damage with the likes of Jimpster, Jay Tripwire, Nathan Coles and DJ Heather. Releases for Tronicsole, Nordic Trax, Guesthouse and So Sound are also in heavy rotation.

Young Belgian producer Peckos released two EPs and a remix for Lost My Dog in 2009, the highlights being a 5/5 ‘Essential Release’ review from DMC Update, charting in German dance mag DeBug and receiving a chart placing from house legend Tony Humphries which led ‘Sensual Strawberry Soda’ to take off on download store Traxsource. This is his second remix for LMD in 2010 and comes ahead of a new EP in the summer.

Like Danny Stott/Roland Nights and Peckos, Artie Flexs was another new discovery for Lost My Dog in 2009. Two EPs (one of which received Mixmag’s ‘Tune Of The Month’ award) and a remix of Latenight Society paved the way for his debut full length project ‘The Journey’ in January 2010.

DJ Reactions

Sneak: excellent vibe on the Vernon & DaCosta Remix

The Lowdown

Lost My Dog’s first release of 2010 is all about THE FUNK, and what better man to step up than Jay West, one of the finest purveyors of funk-laden grooves in the underground house arena. Argentinean Jay is a busy guy, with a constant worldwide tour schedule and a prolific release rate for his own labels Candy Music and Flavor, as well as on a string of worldwide imprints. Four more funktastic remixes are provided by Neighbour, Peckos, Junia Ovadose and Roland Nights.

Since bursting onto the scene in 2005 Jay West has gone on to release his trademark and hugely popular sound for leading labels in the deep house genre such as Drop Music, So Sound, Blockhead and Conya. Jay first worked with Lost My Dog back in 2006 and his ‘Carillon Jamz EP’, which also featured a remix from Greenskeepers, is still one of the label’s most sought after 12”’s. He is also involved in a production partnership with Christian Malloni as The Candy Dealers.

The enigmatic Neighbour (aka Canadian Matt Dauncey) is currently one of the most sought after producers around, both for his super-funked house sound and his more eclectic projects. The “Neighbour sound” has become a well used phrase and is testament to his unique approach. Recent successes have appeared on Kolour Recordings, Super HiFi, Alphabet Music and his own Home Breakin. Neighbour is equally well known for his show stealing DJ sets, which feature live synths, electric guitar and Matt’s inimitable stage presence (some people say that dance music isn’t as fun as it used to be; then again, some people haven’t seen a grown man in a unitard shoot lazers out of his guitar far into the night sky). Such flamboyant performances have seen him play at the Shambhala, Soundwave, Bass Coast Project and Astral Harvest festivals.

By now Peckos will be well known to followers of Lost My Dog. The young Belgian producer released two EPs and a remix for the label in 2009, the highlights being a 5/5 ‘Essential Release’ review from DMC Update, charting in German dance mag DeBug and receiving a chart placing from house legend Tony Humphries which led ‘Sensual Strawberry Soda’ to take off on download store Traxsource.

Highlights on Junia Ovadose’s impressive CV include music for Greenskeepers’ Igloo and G-Swing imprints and DJ Pierre’s Strictly Rhythm sub-label DJP. DJ wise he has performed regularly in New York, all over Europe and at some of the UK’s most respected parties such as Back To Basics, Hard Times and Le Bloc. His music has been aired on Radio 1 by Pete Tong and on other leading UK dance stations Kiss FM and Galaxy FM. His ’10-45 EP’ for Lost My Dog in the autumn is still causing damage so we’re delighted to welcome Junia back.

Roland Nights is a new guise for Danny Stott, another producer who worked closely with LMD in 2009. The future is looking very bright for the Burnley-based beat-maker with two outings on Urbantorque scheduled for early 2010, including a remix of Tom Middleton.

Magazine Reviews

DMC Update – 5/5
Throughout 2009, Lost My Dog was the label which has figured most in these columns on a regular basis as it squirted yet another compulsive house turbo-jet over my grateful lamp-post. Never a duff release, never a dull moment, always either another startling new talent or further consolidation of the swelling roster which has made it the UK’s major home for deep house of the original persuasion, albeit spiked, humped and hot-wired onto the contemporary dancefloor. Their last release of the year also happens to be one of its best, bringing back Argentina’s Jay West, who made his label debut in 2006 and has since gone on to make a name on labels including Drop Music, So Sound, Blockhead and Conya. Jay’s original manages to weld old school Chicago vocal stutters [rather like The It's 'Donnie'] and Mr Fingers bassline with DJ Pierre Wild Pitch hypno-repetition and NYC deep house sensibilities – to marvellously grooved-up effect. There’s also four cracking remixes: Canada’s Matt ‘Neighbour’ Dancey takes the boogie route with wild synth action, hen’s antelope scrotum riffage and jazzy flourishes, LMD stalwart Peckos turns in a dreamy slab of classic NY-style deepness, while Junia Overdose takes the skippy house route with farting duck chorale. Finally Danny Stott calls himself Roland Nights to focus on the bassline and build a hypnotic head of steam. With this vibrant creative pool and ever-growing roll-call of ever-stunning originality, Lost My Dog could well loom out of the underground in 2010, voluminous testicles blazing as the UK’s answer to the old Strictly Rhythm.

Philadelphia Weekly
In the past 4 years, Jay West has had an awesome opportunity to have his productions played world wide by internet radio DJs and high ranking, world traveling DJs. He always puts forth a piece of production with solid foundations. He has a familiar feel he expresses in each of his tracks, and you know a Jay West track when you hear it in a DJ set. His latest release through Ian Straker’s Lost My Dog label is another notch in the belt of accomplishments. In the original mix of “Call the Boss’ you’ll enjoy his arpeggiated synths, stabbing over his percussion and booming kicks. “We’ve been playing over the last hour…get sweaty, ya know,’ echoes over his flowing track, adding to the delightful rhythms. Other remixes that delve into the squelch, techy side of things can be found in Julio’s ‘Japanese mix” and the ‘Roland Nights mix’, however, my two favorite are the ‘Peckos Play’ mix, and the ‘Neighbour Remix.’ You get two different sides of the coin with these remixes. Peckos’s mix stays deep, lush, uplifting, and just damn pretty throughout the whole mix, with the use of pads and melodic chords. And heading the other direction, the Neighbour mix has harder and fuller kicks, a wider soundscape, and a pop feel to it, but never gets cheesy; it becomes more complex in the sound and sample drops as you progress through the production. Creative guitar licks, layered under freaked out filters, crossing over with some 80’s sounding synth jabs makes for an awakening bit of tech funk.

The Lowdown

Danny Stott follows up his debut Lost My Dog release ‘Circuits’ from back in March with a pair of deep and ultra-groovy house cuts that further enhance his reputation as a real talent to watch closely. Stott has also recently caught the eyes and ears of Urbantorque, Grouper, Dutchie, 3am, Night Drive Music and several of Tony Thomas’ deeper imprints. On remix duty is another Lost My Dog regular Atnarko who takes things deeper still with a bassbin bothering sub, and Lee Jarvis, recently re-located to Chicago and firmly picking up on the city’s trademark house sound.

Danny describes his sound as “warm house with plenty of energy…I think there’s usually a slight classic house influence to my tracks”, something that is clearly in evidence on this release. As for his route into dance music, Danny doesn’t have the usual tale of hanging round local nights waiting for his big moment: “Burnley doesn’t have a thriving house scene so my DJ background isn’t brilliant, I’ve run a few nights on and off around Burnley in the past, but they were small nights, which was all good fun but doesn’t look good on paper!!” And as for future plans: “Basically just to keep enjoying making house music and any DJing work that comes in as a result would be a massive bonus.”

Atnarko is the Orlando-based producer and co-owner of Eight-Tracks Records (alongside Q-Burns Abstract Message). His music has been bothering dancefloors since the turn of the century on underground imprints like Nightshift, Tango, Lowdown and Robsoul. Along the way he’s teamed up in a variety of collaborations with folks as varied as deep house done Patrick Turner, drum ‘n’ bass eradicator AK1200, Chicago house-diva DJ Heather and British house-legend Huggy as ‘Formidable Force’ for 2020 Vision. His recent ‘Strange Days EP’ for Lost My Dog is still flying off the virtual shelves and we needed another dose of his sun-drenched Floridian deepness to warm us up for the impending UK winter.

Recently re-located from London to Chicago, Lee Jarvis has amassed a wide range of experiences including working for Freerange Records and running respected London clubnight Moochin. Since first recording for Lost My dog on ‘The Mongrel EP’ in 2008, Lee has gone on to work with 1200 Traxx, Mutate Records, Llama Farm, Fazed Music and Clean House.

Magazine Reviews

Only House Music

DJ Reactions

Mark Farina: atnarko’s mix is poppin’ for me.

Diz: Another gem from LMD camp.. cheers big ears!!

Shane Johnson (Fish Go Deep): Like the vibe on Bubble Pop, lovely warm sounds. Will be playing.

Agnes: Yeah bubble pop is cool for me!!!

Scope: nice deep and funky stuff from dan the man! Atnarko mix is my fav… will spin out for sure!

DJ Linus: Brilliant deep house!

Jason Hodges: Quality deepness,LMD is on FIRE!

Nick Holder: 5/5 Great ep!

Asad Rizvi: Lovely mixes all round though I think my pick of the bunch is Bubble Pop… reminds me of old Silver Network stuff. Fab!

Gramophonedzie: Lee Jarvis rmx is superb!

Giom: Atnarko’s mix is my favourite, but i’ll also try Lee’s mix out, both totally different yet both great! Good stuff as usual…

DJ Mes: proper gear here, thanks guys!

Jay West: all 4 tracks are very good, hard to pick a favourite… Lee Jarvis is back with style here!

The Littlemen: likin the original best – phat deepness.

Jesus Gonsev: Atnarko remix is my tune!!

Mr White: great set of remixes from lost my dog again ! atnarko and lee jarvis both deliver.
Raoul Belmans: Dope after summer grooves!

Murray Richardson: great mixes all round, well into the lee jarvis mix!

Kirby: Atnarkomeister remix is Greaaat !! Nice keys, moody, groovy, i def love this one.

Tommy Largo: feeling the atnarko remix the most. will play and chart.

Matt Rhythm Plate: the original mix is really cool, i like the bubbling bassline and also the chord riff. atnarko remix is proper deep, like drowning in a sea of fudge. scary but tasty. ‘bubble pop’ is my favourite track on the EP. nice rolling groove with just the right level of syncopation to keep it uncluttered yet interesting. all round a really cool EP.

Da Sunlounge: Atnarko is bringing the vibe to me once again. mind you the lee Jarvis mix is also very cool.

Joshua Heath: Atnarko doin his moody smooth wet thing on this one, love it! bubble pop is nice as well

Al Bradley: More great beats from LMD, Danny’s original’s are both cracking tracks & are showing that he has a definite sound to call his own. Lee’s mix is very cool, a fresh sounding bumper, but it’s Atnarko’s gorgeous deep mix which takes the prize for me, top notch grooves for discerning floors.

The Lowdown

Peckos is back on Lost My Dog following his extremely well received debut ‘Belgian Nights EP’ and two remixes of Bernard Jones’ ‘Don’t You Wish’. ‘Sensual Strawberry Soda’ by the young Belgian producer is a deep and funky workout with Chicago influenced beats, strings and a well placed female vocal snippet. Remixes come from fellow Leuven-based producer Raoul Belmans, who is best known as one half of Swirl People, the Netherland’s Tommy Largo and another new Lost My Dog signing, Danny Stott.

Peckos’ star continues to rise and following the release of his ‘Belgian Nights EP’ for Lost My Dog in May 2009 he has gone on to release music for Shak Digital and Bridge City. His debut Lost My Dog EP received press support across Europe including 5/5 ‘Essential Release’ status in DMC Update (UK), a rave review from Beatburguer (Spain) and was included in the top 20 chart in De-Bug (Germany). DJs showing their support included Lovebirds, DJ Sneak and JT Donaldson. Alongside this original material the man from the home of Stella Artois has forthcoming remixes on LMD of Jay West and Danny Stott.

The first of three remixes comes from one half of Swirl People and Aroma Records head Raoul Belmans. Having built up one of the most respected production outfits (with Dimitri Dewever) alongside one of the most successful record labels in deep house circles, Belmans is now branching out with more solo projects. To date his deep and funk-filled sound has been heard on South Africa’s Downsouth Music alongside his own Aroma. Here he chops up the groove of the original, adding some carnival percussion to the mix.

Tommy Largo started working with LMD back in 2006 with his ‘Come On’ track launching a career which has skyrocketed and now sees him following a worldwide DJ schedule, whilst penning music for a raft of labels including Guesthouse, Tango, Control, Body Rhythm and Kolour.

Danny Stott is one of a new breed of producers to join Lost My Dog over recent months, alongside Artie Flexs, Bernard Jones and Peckos. The Burnley, UK, based producer follows up his debut release ‘Circuits’ and a remix of Pete Dafeet’s ‘94’ with a typically deep and musically intelligent remix. The future is looking very bright for Stott with 2 more EPs lined up on Lost My Dog, as well as releases for Urbantorque, Grouper, Dutchie and Tony Thomas’ imprints.

Harri: raouls and original I like ….other two pretty good also

The Lowdown

Pete Dafeet is back on his own label Lost My Dog with new original material after a break of over 12 months. ‘94’ is classic Dafeet, driving deep house, and comes backed by remixes from Andrew Phelan & Origami (warped bassline and whistling action!), new LMD signing Danny Stott (classic sounding deepness) and rising Swedish star Johan ELG (hypnotic deep building groove).

Since the release of ‘Lungs’ for Lost My Dog back in November 2007, Pete Dafeet has been concentrating on resurrecting his Southside Shuffle label including some fine EPs from Jay Tripwire, Harold Heath and Pete himself. He has also released two records with US label Headtunes, one of which was ranked in Juno Records’ ‘Best of 2008 Deep House’, and turned out several remixes. His remix of ‘Do It Like This’ by Jake Island on Toolroom is currently causing a stir with strong reviews and DJ support.

Based out of San Francisco’s famed Moulton Studios complex, Andrew Phelan & Origami have made a name for themselves in the international house community with their mix of funk and tech based sounds built around a variety of live instrumentation and vocals. Their work can be heard in collaborations with various musicians and vocalists such as Sen-Sei, Brown, and Audio Angel. The duo have released music with labels including Amenti, Drop Music, Eight-Tracks and So Sound amongst others, but it is their recent outings on Phelan’s own Prismatic Tracks that sent the dog sniffing and snapping them up for this dirty-basslined Claude VonStroke-styled remix.

Danny Stott caught the attention of Lost My Dog after a tip off from 3am’s Al Bradley. After checking out other great releases on New Era and Ambiosphere (the labels run by Tony Thomas), Grouper Recordings and Dutchie, LMD decided it was time to get in on the act and signed 2 EPs from Stott, the first of which ‘Circuits’ will be released in March. Stott’s remix here is further evidence of a sound which is turning the heads of many; 2009 will also see releases on Urban Torque and Night Drive Music.

Johan ELG rounds off the package. Having released his first ever EP on Pete Dafeet’s Southside Shuffle in 2008, his discography now also includes work for respected label Low Pressings. Born in Stockholm, Johan’s passion for music developed rather early. He started drumming at the tender age of 10 and became something of young (and Swedish) Dave Grohl – playing in three bands simultaneously. His appreciation for music grew as he did, and after five well spent years traveling the world, Johan decided to relocate down under and upped sticks to Melbourne. After getting used to living upside down Johan started producing music, completed an Audio Engineering degree, and became known in his locale for his flawless sets spinning House, Techno, Hip Hop, and Jazz.

Magazine Reviews

iDJ – 9/10
Whilst all around them seem to have resigned to the apparent demise of the music industry, Lost My Dog seems to be one of those labels who have thrived. The Andrew Phelan and Origami mix has really caught my attention on their latest release. A lovely bass line with a whistled lead line, shows the rare skill of keeping the energy on the dancefloor without having to try too hard!

DMC Update – 5/5
Currently celebrating five years in the music business since first emerging on Bosh, Mr Dafeet has good reason to wear a cake on his head and dive into a vat of champers. His Lost My Dog and Southside Shuffle imprints are leading the charge for a fresh burst of deep house gems splashed in early 90s NY shimmer and requisite warped humour. The Lost My Dog EP boasts his first new track for over 12 months, a bubblingly-propulsive firecracker lightly grilled in muted acid with top hook. There’s a solid trio of remixes: San Francisco’s Andrew Phelan & Origami take time out from their Prismatic Tracks to beef up the groove and add their customary live feel. LMD’s Danny Stott adds extra deepness and hippo’s rectum quotient while Stockholm’s Johan ELG, previously heard on Southside Shuffle and Low Pressings, takes a spacey acid approach.

M8 – 7/8
Not just the best DJ name around, Pete Dafeet makes a return to his own label, Lost My Dog, for the first time in 12 months and it’s definitely been worth the wait as his own ‘original’ mix is exactly that – original. Primarily a deep house track, this has a funky bassline to die for and a sample that Norman Cook would be proud of (‘Wasn’t nuttin like this back in 94′ – I can’t get it out of my head!). Andrew Phelan & Origami add a more electro mix, which is probably my slight favourite and there are a couple of more laid-back mixes from Danny Stott and Johan ELG that are worth checking out.

Virtual Music Magazine – 7/10
Dafeet, on his own label after a year break. This is classic Dafeet, driving deep house and comes backed with remixes from Andrew Phelan & Origami and rising Swedish star, Johan ELG.

The Lowdown

When Lost My Dog started from humble beginnings back in 2005 the aims of the label were to release music from up-and-coming producers, alongside those more established in the house scene. On this EP, four years later, the philosophy is still in evidence as the talented newcomer Danny Stott provides a track which is given a makeover by deep house stalwart Harold Heath.

Danny Stott caught the attention of Lost My Dog after a tip off from 3am’s Al Bradley while he was playing at a LMD party in 2008. After checking out other great releases on New Era and Ambiosphere (the labels run by Tony Thomas), Grouper Recordings and Dutchie, the North-East UK based label decided it was time to get in on the act..

This is the first of two EPs that LMD have signed from Stott and no doubt there will be more to follow. Danny describes his sound as “warm house with plenty of energy…I think there’s usually a slight classic house influence to my tracks”, something that is definitely in evidence on this release.

As for his route into dance music, Danny doesn’t have the usual tale of hanging round local nights waiting for his big moment: “Burnley doesn’t have a thriving house scene so my DJ background isn’t brilliant, I’ve run a few nights on and off around Burnley in the past, but they were small nights, which was all good fun but doesn’t look good on paper!!”

Equally, his future plans don’t include worldwide stardom, but merely “to get myself a laptop…my wife usually complains that I don’t spend enough time with her so doing some of my work in the living room would make my life easier in many ways! Basically just to keep enjoying making house music and any DJing work that comes in as a result would be a massive bonus.”

Brighton-based, and Lost My Dog favourite, Harold Heath provides two remixes on this release in his own instantly recognisable style. With a discography including labels such as Detour, Plastic City, Stickman and Urbantorque, for whom he also recorded his critically acclaimed album ‘Hole Funk’, Harold is regarded as one of the most consistent, and also unsung heroes, in UK house music. Harold has so far released one EP (‘Street’s Keep Rocking’) and remixed two tracks (Adam B’s ‘Smoketoke’ and Bernard Jones’ ‘Don’t You Wish’) for Lost My Dog, while the future see’s the beautiful deep and vocal ‘Super Real’ coming soon on the label.

Magazine Reviews

DMC Update – 5/5

Lost My Dog is without doubt one of the finest UK underground house labels, cocking its leg since 2005 and squirting deep house gold: not overdoing it but putting quality over quantity. Danny Stott has appeared on Grouper, Dutchie and Tony Thomas’ New Era and Ambiosphere labels. Obviously a talent to watch with that essential house-techno grounding and knowledge essential for making quality tackle, thus ‘Circuits’ bristles with solid-bodied techno keyboard riffs and insidious groove-power but, most essential of all, is shot with its creators soul, stoking that indefinable feeling of warm elation which the best electronic dance music brings while trampling any category divides in the process. The Dub injects NY flavours, a route also pursued when Brighton’s Harold Heath comes in for a couple of sublime remixes armed with new bassline and deep texrtures which recall such giants as Wayne Gardner. I’ve used the dog’s bollocks line before but this wonderful package will sure be impossible to shake off once it starts humping your leg.

DJ Mag – 3/5
