The Lowdown

Dominic Martin is the man responsible for the second installment of Lost My Dog’s ‘Family Affair’ series, which began in February 2011 with Harold Heath. The series of full-length projects aims to shine a spotlight on the artists that have shaped the sound of the label. Glaswegian Dominic presents a 14 track mix containing no less than eight brand new tracks made specially for the album and a new remix from Giom. The remaining five tracks mark Dominic’s personal LMD highlights including remixes of his work by house heavyweights Milton Jackson and Johnny Fiasco.

The Lowdown

‘Clips & Space’ is the first mix compilation from Giom, one of the deep house scene’s current hottest players and undoubted future megastar. The project was born when Giom approached Lost My Dog asking if he could create a mix of his favourite LMD moments. As huge fans of Giom, and having built up a close relationship with him throughout 2010, we doggers jumped, barked and licked at the opportunity.

The result is a 17 track mix containing 4 brand new and exclusive Giom tracks, remixes and re-edits, expertly woven in alongside his picks from Lost My Dog’s extensive six year catalogue. Artists featured on the mix include Bleep District, YSE, Pezzner, Atjazz, Inland Knights, Bang Bang and Jay West. It will be released in May on CD and digital download formats, with individual track downloads also available. Giom will launch the compilation at Fabric on 7th May.

Giom, originally from Niort in France, has been one of the most exciting artists in the deep house genre over the past couple of years. He has collaborated with, and remixed, artists including Fred Everything, JT Donaldson and LawnChair Generals, as well as releasing his original music for Amenti, Ornate and DJ Heather’s Blackcherry. His infectious blend of deep, funky and fun house has made him one of the most in demand producers and remixers right now.

Giom’s relationship with Lost My Dog began at the Sonar festival in 2009 after a chance encounter at the LMD terrace party. Everyone hit it off and the Frenchman was soon remixing Bang Bang and Bleep District, before penning his own ‘Things U Do EP’, which hit the top 10 charts of Beatport, Stompy and Traxsource. His ‘Unreleased Remixes’ was released in early 2011 to similar success.

The Lowdown

Dominic Martin notches up release number five for Lost My Dog, this time under his ‘Domsko’ alias. The Domsko moniker represents the Glaswegian’s ‘bigger room’ output and on ‘Hard Yards’ he marries a driving synth hook with a deeper groove that will more familiar to followers of Lost My Dog. Astral T provides another captivating vocal performance and Chicago house legend Johnny Fiasco delivers a bubbling, bumping remix and dub which perfectly straddle the line where deep and soulful house meet to throw it down.

Two solo releases from Dominic Martin on Lost My Dog (‘Touch Of Soul’ and ‘East Glasgow Deep EP’) and two collaborations with Chris Harris (‘Jazzmag’ and ‘King Of Swing’) have been extremely well received in the past 3 years. Dominic Martin releases can also be found on Nordic Trax, Guesthouse, So Sound and Tronicsole. ‘Hard Yards’ shows another side to his output – as Domsko he has released music for Potty Mouth, Toto, White Sessions and Second Coming, achieving several BBC Radio and Galaxy FM plays along the way.

Based in Birmingham, Astral T has collaborated with several fellow UK producers including Rhythm Plate, Kinky Movement, Eddie Leader and Non Believers. More recently she has worked with Aki Bergen and Kirby, featuring on two tracks for Kolour Recordings. Her unique vocal style always raises records to the next level, making them leap out and remain memorable.

Johnny Fiasco remixes ‘Hard Yards’ having been on Lost My Dog’s target list for some time. Born and raised in Chicago, he is regarded as a pioneer in the city’s house scene, and subsequently a legend in it’s making. He began spinning at some of the first underground parties in the late 80’s, before landing a residency alongside Mark Farina at Smart Bar and beginning his recording career working with the likes of Cajual. The list of house labels and worldwide clubs/events he has gone on to work with is far too long to even start mentioning, and his success has led him to work with a string of more commercial artists, producing a number of billboard hits and remixing the likes of Justin Timberlake, Gloria Estefan, KD Lang and Donna Blakely.

The Lowdown

One of Lost My Dog’s new signings from 2009 has ‘done a Clarke Kent’ and comes spinning out of the proverbial telephone booth as Roland Nights in 2010. Roland Nights penned three original tracks and two remixes for LMD last year under his Danny Stott name and felt the time was right to take things in a new direction. So far it’s working well as Roland has released a stunning EP and remixed Tom Middleton for Urbantorque, as well as remixing Jay West for Lost My Dog. The year ahead is looking bright for the Burnley based producer with several more projects in the pipeline.

‘Phazz’ comes backed with remixes from Vernon & DaCosta and tONKPROJECT, as well as more familiar Lost My Dog contributors Dominic Martin, Peckos and Artie Flexs. The Vernon & DaCosta remix was included on the label’s recent Miami Sampler and received huge support, including most notably from Mark Farina with whom it has become a DJ set staple.

Vernon & DaCosta are the Belgian duo who never fail to bump the dancefloor with their own blend of deep, funky house that has appeared on labels including Om, Robsoul, Aroma and Blockhead.

tONKPROJECT has made a name for himself over the past 12 months with his killer grooves appearing on standout releases for Urbantorque, Elevation, Behaviors and Proton.

Dominic Martin is currently riding high as his ‘East Glasgow Deep EP’ for Lost My Dog is causing damage with the likes of Jimpster, Jay Tripwire, Nathan Coles and DJ Heather. Releases for Tronicsole, Nordic Trax, Guesthouse and So Sound are also in heavy rotation.

Young Belgian producer Peckos released two EPs and a remix for Lost My Dog in 2009, the highlights being a 5/5 ‘Essential Release’ review from DMC Update, charting in German dance mag DeBug and receiving a chart placing from house legend Tony Humphries which led ‘Sensual Strawberry Soda’ to take off on download store Traxsource. This is his second remix for LMD in 2010 and comes ahead of a new EP in the summer.

Like Danny Stott/Roland Nights and Peckos, Artie Flexs was another new discovery for Lost My Dog in 2009. Two EPs (one of which received Mixmag’s ‘Tune Of The Month’ award) and a remix of Latenight Society paved the way for his debut full length project ‘The Journey’ in January 2010.

Lost My Dog’s favourite Glaswegian, Dominic Martin, returns for his second solo EP on the label. His last release ‘Touch Of Soul’, back in 2008, was a huge success, gaining licenses to over 15 compilations. On that single, Dom was joined by Milton Jackson and Pete Dafeet on remix duties but this time the limelight is all his as he provides 3 tracks neatly covering deep, jacking and tech house ground.

Dominic Martin is perhaps best known for his collaborations with Chris Harris which have graced labels including Nordic Trax, Guesthouse and again Lost My Dog. He has worked alongside Hiro for his hometown label Tronicsole and he has graced So Sound and Tronicsole as a solo artist. To further emphasise Dom’s versatility as a songwriter, composer and producer, he can also be found producing tech and electro house under the Domsko moniker for the likes of Potty Mouth and Kingdom Come Cuts.
