The Lowdown

After a pair of stunning remixes of Bang Bang and Bleep District, Lost My Dog’s latest signing for 2010, Giom, now delivers his first original EP, along with a little remix help from Vernon & DaCosta and Pete Dafeet.

Giom, originally from Niort in France, is one of the most exciting artists in the deep house genre over the past couple of years. He has collaborated with, and remixed, artists including Fred Everything, JT Donaldson and Swirl People, as well as releasing his original music for Amenti, Ornate and DJ Heather’s Blackcherry. His infectious blend of deep, funky and fun house has made him one of the most in demand producers and remixers right now.

The original mix of ‘In Love’ was a huge success on Lost My Dog’s Miami Sampler, picking up support from Mark Farina, Fred Everything, LawnChair Generals and Soul Minority amongst others. It now comes backed with a big bumping remix from Vernon & DaCosta and a soothing deeper re-rub from Pete Dafeet.

Vernon & DaCosta are the well established Belgian duo who never fail to bump the dancefloor with their own blend of deep, funky house.Their music has appeared on labels including Om, Robsoul, Aroma and Blockhead and their recently launched Homecoming Music imprint is currently turning heads and looks set to become one of the ‘must have’ labels in underground house music.

Lost My Dog label boss Pete Dafeet has impressed over the past five years with music on labels such as Toolroom, Robsoul, Shaboom and of course LMD, which has led to a series of international DJ bookings.Pete has just mixed the compilation ‘Lost My Dog: 5 Years & Still Looking’, celebrating the fifth birthday of his home label.Due for release on 5th July the album has picked up rave reviews including Mixmag’s ‘Compilation of the Month’ and a number of features including iDJ magazine, 5 Mag in Chicago and Urbnet.

DJ Reactions

Matt RiVEM (Rhythm Plate / Bleep District): fantastic varied EP. of the original giom tracks ‘the jam’ is the one for me, really nice groove and love the drum programming in particular. however, it’s the V&C remix of ‘in love’ which steals the show on the EP here – LOVE the new vocal on this, big tune… not to be outdone my man mr dafeet turns in an excellent deep rework too, love those moody chords – one for the later/earlier sets

The Lowdown

The rise of Bleep District in the past two years hasn’t gone unnoticed here at Lost My Dog towers (or should that be kennels) and, finally, long-time friends of the label Matt Rhythm and Matt Powell provide their debut EP for LMD. Giom is another artist who has pricked up the canine’s ears of late and is working closely with Lost My Dog throughout 2010 and beyond – he remixes ‘Don’t Stop Now’ to complement Bleep District’s 3 original tracks. The emphasis here is purely on fun, funk-riddled deep house.

Hailing from Nottingham, via Matlock, Bleep District is the duo of Matt Rhythm (of Rhythm Plate) and Matt Powell. As Bleep District they have achieved success on labels including Winding Road, Ornate and Replay. Their current release ‘Science & Soul’ for San Francisco’s Amenti Music is causing some serious damage in both its original form and thanks to a LawnChair Generals remix. Matt Rhythm has been a close friend of us here at Lost My Dog for several years and was first involved with the label when Rhythm Plate provided a remix way back on LMD006. His Rhythm Plate partner-in-crime Ant Plate (aka YSE) has also released several tracks and remixes with LMD.

The original mix of ‘Don’t Stop Now’ was included on Lost My Dog’s recent Miami Sampler picking up praise, plays and chart support from Inland Knights, Mark Farina, Miguel Migs, LawnChair Generals and many more.

Giom, originally from Niort in France, is another of the most exciting artists in the deep house genre right now. He has collaborated with, and remixed, artists including Fred Everything, JT Donaldson and Swirl People, as well as releasing his original music for Amenti, Ornate and DJ Heather’s Blackcherry. For Lost My Dog in 2010 Giom has already remixed Bang Bang’s ‘Broken’ to rave reviews and will release his first full EP for the label later in the summer.

The Lowdown

Our Miami Sampler is released as we celebrate our first visit to the infamous music conference. The sampler contains a taste of what you can expect from LMD over the next few months with four corking tracks from Giom, Bleep District, Yse pres. Frank H Carter III and Roland Nights (Vernon & DaCosta Remix).

The Miami sampler is released in limited edition 12″ format, followed by digital download.

Bleep District – the duo of Matt Rhythm (of Rhythm Plate) and Matt Powell who have achieved success on labels such as Winding Road, Ornate and Replay.

Giom – rapidly rising French star (now based in London) who has impressed over the past two years with original releases for Amenti Music, Blackcherry and Kolour, and remixes of Jay J, Fred Everything and Natalie Williams.

Yse – the other half of Rhythm Plate (Ant Plate) who has worked very closely with Lost My Dog for several years now providing three original EPs (‘Not Wot You Got’, ‘Bounce Back’ and ‘A Life Sentience’) and two remixes.

Frank H Carter III – New York based songwriter and vocalist who has penned a string of tracks together with Yse set for release later in 2010 on Lost My Dog.

Roland Nights – the alter ego of Danny Stott who has been working with Lost My Dog for a couple of years now, along with catching the ears of Urbantorque recently for a stunning EP and remix of Tom Middleton.

Vernon & DaCosta – The Belgian duo who never fail to bump the dancefloor with their own blend of deep, funky house that has appeared on labels including Om, Robsoul, Aroma and Blockhead.

Reviews

DMC Update – 5/5
A taste of LMD whoopee to come with Bleep District’s funky, bumpy ‘Don’t Stop Now’, the singing goat on Glom’s ‘In Love’, Yse and Frank Carter III’s NY ’89-style ‘Guessing Games’ and Danny Stott trading as Roland Nights on ‘Phazz’, which is mixed into a racey throbber by Belgium’s Vernon and DaCosta. Much cocking of the leg inevitable in the next few months as these will all come with the customary remixes. What a label!

Our latest signing Giom was recently interviewed by Chicago’s 5 Magazine and provided an exclusive mix for them to boot. Read the full interview below and head on over to the 5 Magazine website to check out the mix and for more great house music related stuff.

Born and raised in Niort, France, GIOM (website, facebook, ilike, traxsource, discogs, myspace, soundcloud, twitter) now lives in London, producing and remixing some of the most exquisite House releases of the last five years. He’s released music on Motion, OM, Aroma, Blackcherry and Kolour.

1. So I read on your blog that you’ve entered into a partnership with the guys from Lost My Dog. Is this a series of gigs, releases, remixes…?
GIOM: Exactly! We’ve been doing the prep-work since we first met at their label party in Sonar last summer, and for this year I have a string of original EPs being released on both vinyl and digital, as well as a handful of remixes… You’ll also get to see some cheeky bootlegs as part of their DOGLEG series which they giveaway via their mailing list. My first 3-tracker EP will be coming out in time for Miami, we’re just in the middle of sorting out the remixes. Parties are being organised too. I will also be playing for them at their Sonar and ADE parties, later on this year. So things are looking good!

2. I was looking through your releases on discogs.com and had no idea you were a session drummer. Have you done any work that I might be familiar with?
GIOM: Ha! Not sure… I play for a lot of random artists. I mainly do live gigs and tours, but also jingles for adverts or radio. It seems nowadays a singer will get signed to a Major label, then needs a band, then does a lot of showcases and festivals, then eventually loses interest, can’t cope with it all or gets dropped… So I play for a lot of these guys, and then move onto the next one…. I have recorded tracks which ended up as B-sides for Kasabian, toured with the Nextmen, Odyssey (the disco band…), been on a few music videos where you can hardly see me, and recorded lots of crappy music you might hear while walking down the supermarket or the hardware store. A few years ago I also did a couple of porn soundtracks, but that’s another story…

3. Tell me a little about the UK House scene as it stands now. With guys like LMD and Kahua that seem to be really giving the right marketing push to this music for the first time, well, ever, do you see some kind of a comeback poppin’?
GIOM: I’m not sure… UK labels are great of course, but like everywhere else in the world not enough of them have got the energy nor time to be more professional about their work, release schedule etc… When you do not make any money out of all the hard work you put onto a business, it’s hard to keep at it after a few months… To me this is a very important area, and one where Kahua and LMD are making a real difference because they are focused, organised, very professional, and have been for years. Of course they have the genuine passion and love for House Music, but remain switched on and focused.

4. It’s uncanny to see how many of your songs get licensed for comps – House of OM (DJ Heather), Farina’s Fabric 40, Live in Tokyo and Nectar Volume 2. Do you think that’s helped getting your name out there? is it more important than the DJs spinning your records?
GIOM: I think both the compilations and the support from DJs are really important. But yes, having music licensed to mix CDs has helped me get noticed, no doubt! When you have no music out whatsoever, but suddenly you feature on mix CDs, in my case sometimes the opening track, and on labels such as Om, Hed Kandi or Fabric, you do get noticed… People think who is this? and want to know more about you… I always made sure I had my myspace address or email written on the album credits, and that’s how labels started approaching me and asking me for music.

5. Will you be at WMC this year? And what releases are you working on in the kitchen that we should keep an eye out for?
GIOM: You should definitely keep an eye out for the next Bobby & Klein releases (my more jacking, quirky collaboration with Vinz, my old school friend) We have an EP coming out on Spatula City in the next few weeks, as well as one on Kolour Recordings which I think is going to surprise a few people…

One of my tracks from last year’s Blue Matter EP (Ornate Music) has just been licensed to the upcoming DJ Kicks compilation from the Juan Mclean (DFA), which is really cool!

Otherwise, by myself, I’m working on 2 EPs for Lost My Dog, 1 for Bump Music (which will include the remix I did for Miles Maeda), and 2 potential other ones, which aren’t confirmed yet… Remix-wise, I’ve just finished 2 for the Lawnchair Generals coming out on their LCG Music imprint, one for Bang Bang, and am presently doing one for Sonny Fodera’s label, one for Bleep District, one for Vula (Basement Jaxx singer)… There are more though.

So I’ve got plenty of work to do, which is why i won’t attend the conference this year, but instead stay in the studio while everyone is partying, and head for the US the following week for my forthcoming US tour.

The Lowdown

Bang Bang are the South African three-piece band who have been making waves for some time now with their unique and quirky take on house music. In a similar way to the likes of Crazy P, Greenskeepers and 2020 Soundsystem, Bang Bang fuse live instrumentation, vocals and a band mentality with a house music background. The result is a blend that works equally well on the dancefloor as it does at home.

Hailing from Cape Town, the trio of Matt Prehn, Matthew Loots and vocalist Ruegroove have released their signature sound on various underground labels including Myna, Baker Street, Shrewd, Agave, Candy Music and most recently Eighth Dimension. In 2010 they will also appear on the currently super-hot Kolour Recordings alongside this release ‘Broken’ for Lost My Dog.

Lost My Dog were recently tipped by DMC Update to “loom out of the underground in 2010” and this release may well be the start of that journey. On the remix front the UK label have lined up some of the hottest young talent London has to offer in Giom, Pete Dafeet and Yse, along with Chicago house veteran Sean Smith.

Giom, originally from Niort in France, is one of the most exciting artists in the deep house genre right now. He has collaborated with and remixed artists including Fred Everything, JT Donaldson and Swirl People as well as releasing his original music for Amenti, Ornate and DJ Heather’s Blackcherry.

Lost My Dog co-owner Pete Dafeet could almost be classified as a stalwart now; its six years since he first made an impact with the guys from Shaboom Records who helped launch his career. That time has seen Pete grow into a highly regarded figure within UK house music, with over 50 releases bearing his name.

Yse is known to many as one half of Rhythm Plate, but it is his solo productions for Lost My Dog which have caused a stir in recent years. His ‘Bounce Back’ track is hailed as an anthem by many and his recent ‘A Life Sentience EP’ sparked rave reviews from the house music press and DJs.

Sean Smith is one of Chicago’s top rated producers having released music on labels including Soma, Classic and Loveslap alongside his own excellent Smooth Agent label. A veteran DJ, he has performed with legends Mike Dearborn, Farley ‘Jackmaster’ Funk, Armando, Ron Carroll and Derrick Carter.

22nd January 2010

Lost My Dog’s first party in London sees us team up with CityFly and Bar 54 as Giom, Pete Dafeet and Najan Ward from LMD grace the decks alongside J:Shez, Jonna and Ash Steventon.

LMD first started working with CityFly in Leicester back in 2005, hosting parties with Jake Childs, Jay West and Junia Ovadose and it is fitting that we should join forces again to crack the capital and kick-start 2010 in fine style.

The party marks the start of a year that will see Lost My Dog celebrate its 5th Anniversary and also presents a perfect opportunity to unveil our latest signing Giom who will be working with us closely in 2010.

All those in attendance will also receive a free copy of LMD’s debut artist album, produced, compiled and mixed by Latvian wonderkid Artie Flexs.
