The Lowdown

Dominic Martin is the man responsible for the second installment of Lost My Dog’s ‘Family Affair’ series, which began in February 2011 with Harold Heath. The series of full-length projects aims to shine a spotlight on the artists that have shaped the sound of the label. Glaswegian Dominic presents a 14 track mix containing no less than eight brand new tracks made specially for the album and a new remix from Giom. The remaining five tracks mark Dominic’s personal LMD highlights including remixes of his work by house heavyweights Milton Jackson and Johnny Fiasco.

The Lowdown

What’s it all about?
Lost My Dog’s first EP of 2012 see’s Canadian stalwart Jon Delerious, best known for his music on Nordic Trax, debut on the label. Three original cuts are backed by remixes of the title track from two of the current hottest names in deep house – Huxley and Giom.

What does it sound like?
The sound is typical Delerious and Lost My Dog – lush, warm, deep grooves always with an eye firmly on the dancefloor. Huxley’s mix is throbbing and driving with glorious breaks into the sweeping strings, while Giom takes things into piano-led moody territory underpinned by another of his huge trademark basslines.

Who’s involved?
Calgary’s Jon Delerious has been a staple of the ‘west coast’ house scene since his first ‘big’ gig in 1992. Since then his production talents have seen him grow into an internationally respected DJ/producer with his music being supported by a diverse array of artists from Gilles Peterson through to Laurent Garnier. He’s played around the globe with some of house music’s finest including ‘Little’ Louie Vega, Carl Cox, Mark Farina and Ben Watt. A regular on Nordic Trax he’s also been featured on City Life, Doppelgaenger, Filter Music and more over the years.

Huxley’s meteoric rise in recent months has made him one of the hottest names in deep house, with a string of releases on labels such as Morris Audio, Leftroom and Tsuba. Having appeared on Lost My Dog’s last release with a remix of ‘Looking Back’ by Mike Richardson, Howard Sessions and KT Forrester, the man from Tring is back straight away with a rework of ‘Believe In You’.

Now firmly one of LMD’s mainstays, Giom kicks of another busy year with his first remix. 2011 saw the London-based Frenchman release his first mix CD ‘Clips & Space’ alongside a string of original tracks and remixes for the label, as well as headlining LMD events at Fabric and Sonar.

This EP kicks off an exciting 2012 for Lost My Dog which will feature new music from Ian Pooley, Moodymanc, Pete Dafeet, Demarkus Lewis, Dale Howard and YSE feat. Frank H. Carter III.

The Lowdown

Hot on the heels of his ‘Clips & Space’ compilation, Giom (recently featured as a ‘rising star’ of deep house by iDJ magazine) is back on Lost My Dog with a fresh EP alongside Californian producer Joshua Heath. These two artists should be familiar to those with even a passing interest in underground deep and funky house, having previously worked with labels including Om Records, Salted, Amenti, Drop Music, Aroma, Lo:Rise, Shifted and Joshua’s own Golden State Recordings. Despite a long friendship this is the first time the pair have worked together; a collaboration that came about when Joshua was recently visiting London and stayed with Giom.

The resulting 3 track ‘Connection Lost EP’ is a well-varied house EP with a definite nod to house music’s more recent history and strongest influencers. It covers funky/club house in the vein of late 90’s/early 00’s Full Intention, Soulsearcher and Bob Sinclar material, heads down East Midlands deep grooves a la Inland Knights and The Littlemen circa 2000-2005 and gritty low-slung South London-styled tech house.

Having worked closely with Giom for the past 18 months, the UK’s Lost My Dog imprint, now in it’s seventh year, was the obvious choice for Giom and Joshua when selecting a label to work with on this project. Recent reviews of Lost My Dog.

DJ Mag: There aren’t many house labels with as much consistency – such a distinct sense of personality – as Lost My Dog.

Data Transmission: Since 2005, Lost My Dog has been one of the UK’s foremost flag-wavers of the original house music spirit.

The Lowdown

Just over a year since ‘Guessing Games’ first appeared on Lost My Dog’s ‘Miami 2010 Sampler’, the deep, soulful and emotionally charged gem that caught so many ears finally gets its full release. Yse has tweaked the track to freshen it up for 2011 and the vocals of Frank H. Carter III get a brand new reworking courtesy of Giom, Rhythm Plate and UK Garage legend, Karl Brown of Tuff Jam.

This is the fourth original record that Yse, pronounced “Eese”, has recorded for Lost My Dog and continues his very close ties with the UK label, both as a solo artist and as one half of Rhythm Plate. Of Yse’s his last record, ‘A Life Sentience EP’, Atjazz commented “You’ve blown my socks off mate…I’m all the f*ck over this record, the whole thing is a classic in the making” – compliments don’t come much bigger than that in deep house land! ‘Guessing Games’ also follows up ‘Not Wot You Got’ and ‘Bounce Back’. Along with a string of additional remixes for LMD, Yse has also penned originals and remixes for labels including Ornate, Kolour and Blockhead.

Giom has become a key artist with Lost My Dog over the past 12 months – he will soon release his ‘Clips & Space’ compilation on the label and has also just released a new single with Nathan G on Defected Records offshoot Lo:Rise. He has previously collaborated with, and remixed, artists including Fred Everything, JT Donaldson and LawnChair Generals, as well as releasing his original music for Amenti, Ornate and DJ Heather’s Blackcherry. Alongside regular appearances at Fabric and a consistent international tour schedule, his infectious blend of deep, funky and fun house has made him one of the most in demand DJ, producers and remixers right now.

As Rhythm Plate, Yse and partner in crime Matt Rivem have a solid decade of releases behind them including labels such as Winding Road, DiY, LawnChair Generals Music and Hudd Traxx, licenses to Groove Armada and Tom Middleton compilations and have had a track featured in US TV show CSI.

Two remixes from Karl Brown of Tuff Jam take Lost My Dog into new territory. Karl’s partnership with Matt “Jam” Lamont as Tuff Jam in the 1990’s is widely recognised as being instrumental in creating the music genre UK Garage, with numerous releases and remixes of artists including Usher, Coolio, Tina Moore, Boys II Men and En Vogue. His solo career led to a radio show on Choice FM, DJ appearances all over the world and numerous awards, including being featured in DJ Magazine’s Top 100 World DJ’s. In 2011 Karl runs his own label 2TUF-4U and nurtures up-and-coming talent through DJ and production tutoring and projects that teach the business side of the industry. So impressed was Karl by the original version of Guessing Games that he requested to remix it and an exciting new collaboration was born.
