Catalogue Number: LMD021
Release Date: July 2008

A1: YSE – Bounce Back (Phil Weeks Remix)
B1: Pete Dafeet – Lungs (Pete’s Beatbuster Edit)
B2: Luckystars – Swimming Under The Ice (Funky Transport Remix)

The Lowdown

Lost My Dog release their second remixes EP, where the label’s favourite producers are invited to pick a track from the back catalogue and give their own take on it. Drafted in this time for a three track EP are Phil Weeks, Funky Transport and Lost My Dog’s own Pete Dafeet.

Phil Weeks opts to take on YSE’s ‘Bounce Back’ which is one of the label’s best selling releases in their three year history. The original mix on LMD015 was touted as the ‘biggest deep house track’ at the Miami Music Conference 2007 by DJs including Joey Youngman and Swirl People. Two remixes by 2020 Vision starlet Burnski helped cement its popularity. Phil Weeks is best known for his sub-bass heavy no-nonsense club tracks, many of which come out on his superb Robsoul label. Phil has risen to the top of his game as a producer having collaborated with the likes of David Duriez, DJ Sneak and Derrick Carter and was someone Lost My Dog wanted to work with again after he provided a remix for the label’s fifth release back in 2005.

Pete Dafeet chooses to revisit one of his own tracks. ‘Lungs’ was originally remixed on LMD018 by Fred Everything who did wonders with Pete’s self-recorded vocal. So taken was Pete with the new vocal that he wanted to go back to his own original version and give it an overhaul using Fred’s accapella. Pete’s star as a producer is constantly rising; recent months have seen releases on Detour, Head Tunes, S-Sens, Kolour and his own reborn Southside Shuffle label, while the rest of 2008 includes tracks and remixes for Uniform, Artizan and Blacksoul.

Rounding off the EP is Funky Transport, aka Iain MacPherson, from Aberdeen, Scotland. Funky Transport’s eight year production career has several highlights including EPs for 2020 Vision, LowDown, Brique Rouge, Chez and Derrick Carter and Luke Solomon’s Classic Records. Iain is also a fixture at Club Snafu in his hometown, regularly playing host to the world’s leading DJs as they pass through. When Lost My Dog approached Iain about this release he immediately picked out Luckystars’ ‘Swimming Under The Ice’, which was originally released on LMD013.

Catalogue Number: LMD013
Release Date: February 2007

A1: Swimming Under The Ice
B1: Swimming Under The Ice (Jay Tripwire & Gavin Froome Mix)
B2: Swimming Under The Ice (Pete Dafeet Remix)

The Lowdown

Maxim Saidashev, Egor Belov & Konstantin Lyubimov make up Luckystars, a unique and creative band whose tracks are revolutionising the Russian electronic scene and are making waves in Europe and beyond. All three are successful producers in their own right so when they get in the studio together the results are devastating. Their fresh approach to producing distinguishes their music from the mass of listless music boring clubbers across the globe – each and every track is saturated with unrestrained energy, intelligent harmonies and an accumulation of emotions. Most recently Luckystars have seen releases on the UK’s ever impressive Urbantorque imprint and Germany’s Conya.

The original mix of ‘Swimming Under The Ice’ is a Spiritcatcher-esqe slice of deep melodic house; crisp snappy beats underpin lush pads and intricate keys and the track rumbles ever upwards towards electronic bliss.

The first remix is a real treat as two of Vancouver’s house legends team up for a deeper than deep rework. Jay Tripwire needs very little introduction, with well over 100 releases and a Fabric CD to his name he is one of the most respected producers of the last decade, while Gavin Froome has been making waves in the deep house scene for many years too, most notably for his releases and album on Nordic Trax. Jay and Gavin serve up a punching deep house cut; devastating beats, percussion and a super deep bassline pave the way for pads taken from the original mix and a freshly added spoken vocal.

With a string of releases due imminently on labels including Robsoul, S-Sens and Head Tunes, Pete Dafeet is fast becoming one of the UKs most sought after deep house producers. His Bathtime Scrub mix features a deep bouncing bass combined with subtle acid squelches and a breakdown drawing on the original’s chords. The track climaxes with superbly crafted hi hats giving the rework real dancefloor drive with a heavy dose of swing.

Magazine Reviews

iDJ – 4/5 Recommended
Blimey, it doesn’t get much deeper than the Original. Those jazzy charms are exactly the sort you want serenading you at 6am. Better for the floor though is the version from Jay Tripwire and Gavin Froome which is just as deep but this time with that smoky, druggy, floaty vibe that reminds this reviewer at least of Marshall Jefferson’s “Mushrooms”. And there’s few better recommendations than that.

DJ Reactions

Paolo Mojo
Enjoying the original mix of this, nice deep tackle with good chords. Cool!

Jay West (Lowdown, Drop, Flavor)
Really liking this!

Blacksoul (Deepfunk, Blacksoul Music)
EXCELLENT!!!! Deephouse with balls!!! Love the original and Pete`s remix!!! Playing this! 5/5

Sonny Wharton (Renaissance)
This rocked Renaissance NYE and I ended up playin both Jay & Pete’s mixes in the main room… Pete’s did most damage!

Leigh Morgan (Urbantorque)
Classy stuff as ever from the Luckystars crew, all the mixes are cool but the original wins out for me with it’s lush deepness and builds very nicely.

Harold Heath (Urbantorque, Lost My Dog)
Really classy release, Jay & Gavin’s mix is sweet but Pete just pips it with his remix which is a right groovy little so and so.

FraidSo (Greenhouse, Lost My Dog)
Another great forward thinking release. Jay & Gavin’s mix is the pick for us – great intriguing deepness!!

Murray Richardson (2020 Vision, Nordic Trax)
Blasting these across Brazil for the next month!

Rhythm Plate (Winding Road)
Its got to be Swimming under Stars Original mix for me there matey: fluidly deep moisture!

Burnski (2020 Vision)
That original is really nice, proper tech house. Love it – looking seriously hot for ya!

Slum Science (Hudd Trax)
Feelin’ Petes & Jay’s/Gavin’s mixes

Charles Webster
These are really nice!

Anil Chawla (Saved, Ministry of Sound)
Tripwire mix is my favourite (deep and nicely trippy), with the Dafeet mix coming in a close second, will most definitely play them both! More splendid work from one of my favourite labels!

Tyler Stadius
Lovely tune. Really dig Jay & Gavin’s mix. Deeeep!

Spettro
WOW! I am loving my Saturday morning shuffle today. Sweet bliss. Everything is placed just right. This track can be applied in many situations. 10 out of 10!

Tom Golden (Homegrown, Stylus, Manchester)
Loving the Tripwire & Froome mix, have played on radio and charted. Top stuff.

Luckystars are a unique and creative band whose tracks are revolutionising the Russian electronic scene, not to mention making a significant in Europe, the USA and the rest of the world. Their fresh approach to creating music distinguishes them from the more standard dance music currently being mass produced. Each and every track is full of harmonically combined intellectual notes saturated with unrestrained energy and an accumulation of emotions. Three producers make up Luckystars; Maxim Saidashev (aka Said), Egor Belov (aka George White) & Konstantin Lyubimov (aka DJ Electric). All three are successful producers in their own right so when they get in the studio together the results are devastating.

Maxim Saidashev is the oldest of the band members and the founder of Kayot (Buzzin Fly Records). Through his 32 years of life he achieved success in various roles from jazz guitarist to creating a club version of the musical “The Witches of Eastwick”. Maxim was born in Electrostal and started his education at Moskvoreck’ Jazz Institute. He didn’t, however, manage to graduate from the institute and became a recallable arranger in the Russian pop music scene. Maxim’s carreer lead him to electronic music as it was peaking in 1995 and he worked on various high profile projects including creating the music for documentaries on the Discovery Channel in Japan. Years of hard work has seen Said experimenting with different electronic music styles from house to vocal trance, most notably as Kayot who achieved underground success in 2006 with the track “Clear Skies” on Ben Watt’s Buzzin Fly imprint.

Egor Belov started his creative way from the cradle. With a strong focus on self-actualization in art, Egor chose music and design as the main instrument to make life around him brighter. Starting out organising parties for friends in clubs around Moscow using money he earned doing designs for commercial clients. As George White he has visited almost every big city in Russia playing alongside many Russian and foreign DJs including the legendary ‘Glamour to Kill’. George’s Moscow portfolio counts such clubs as ‘Mio’, ‘Cocon’, ‘Fabrique’, ‘Amsterdam’, ‘Stereo’ (DJ, art-director, designer), ‘Mix’ (resident DJ), ‘Diamon Hall’ (resident DJ) and he is involved with many respected DJ-cafes providing high society with a freestyle blend of genres ranging from experimental electronics to jazz.

Konstantin Lyubimov was born in Moscow. From 2001 Konstantin has worked as a DJ and producer. Known better as DJ Electric, Koala (who split in January 2005) and now Luckystars, Konstantin has a string of releases behind him on highly respected labels including Cuba Records (Koala – Imagine), Lost Language (Koala – Fantasy) and Urbantorque (Luckystars – Be There At Midnight EP). “Imagine” became the official hymn of the ‘Respublika Kazantip’ project in May 2004 and was a huge hit in Ibiza the same summer, charting highly with many jocks. DJ Electric has also played at the biggest festivals in Russia and Ukraine including Godskitchen alongside the likes if John Digweed, Luke Fair, Jimmy Van M., Anthony Pappa, Marco V, Tall Paul and Different Gear.
